Re:now you see it, now you don't - 2010/04/04 04:37 You're right Lew they disappear easily.
Here's the formula:
Post something
The reader may or may not agree,
The ones that agree move on,
The ones that disagree
Complain, Whine, Whine,Complain,Whine,Complain.....
Post gets pulled

Re:now you see it, now you don't - 2010/04/04 12:46 Doug, Lew... the same rules for the forum have been in place for almost four years. If you need to refresh your memory, they are published in the top thread in the Admin forum.

We have always tried to keep the forum discussions light and friendly, just to keep the peace. Many alumni have told me that this site has helped them come out of depression; others have credited it with getting them out of the house and back into the social scene. Most appreciate the generally non-judgmental, non-confrontational banter about our common memories.

I will always protect that as will Susie, who has done a great job for several years as our always-vigilant moderator. Frankly, I am a little perturbed by the insinuation that Susie edits or removes any content just because she disagrees with it. That has never been the case.

I have been a little lazy regarding the `Friday Open Topic.` Send me some ideas for discussion and I will get it going again.

Re:now you see it, now you don't - 2010/04/04 15:13 Thank you, Bob. I appreciate your support.

I hope that Members understand that whether I personally agree or disagree with a post has absolutely nothing to do with why they are pulled. In fact, I have (many times) whole-heartedly agreed with MANY of the political views that have been pulled. I pull anything (regardless of my own opinion on the matter) that has the potential to cause problems or disagreements among the site members.

Members know our intent to keep this site light and fun, but a few continue to post their political commentaries. It's okay though, because I have great respect for those members, and I hope that they have mutual respect for me. I thought we had an understanding that they would continue to try to sneak a post in, and I would continue to pull them. It is a challenge (game) that I thought was somewhat enjoyed by all involved.

As I have stated before, and will continue to state in the future: This site is NOT the venue for political or religious debates and discussions EXCEPT when Bob has posted a "Friday Open Topic." Suggestions for these topics are gladly accepted by myself or Bob Griggs. Feel free to send them to either of us....and let the debates begin!

Meanwhile, if you can't wait until the next "Friday Open Topic," visit talkgwinnett.net for some rousing political discussions!

Re:now you see it, now you don't - 2010/04/07 17:51 When the site started, I really visited often and loved it, mostly because all the talk was about memories from school days that I hadn't stirred in a while. I've been absent most of the time lately, and was surprised to see this discussion.

My two cents (and not worth a penny more):

I feel bombarded by negativity and conflict constantly - news, environment, war, economy, politics... not to mention working in a law firm where our main focus is protecting seniors from predators that include family members.... I don't need another source of conflicts and "downers". I don't enjoy what my brainiac wife considers "interesting academic debate" over both sides of an issue. I have nothing at all against those who do enjoy such, mind you, but am not interested myself.

I hope more alumni will return more often to the site, recalling friends and common memories of our old stomping grounds. My dad is 88 this year, and still hears from the surviving folks he grew up with, Navy buddies, and even Bob Addison, our next door neighbor and guidance counselor for my short time at Shamrock. Here's to more good memories, and here's to the folks who invest the time to post any and everything on the site, and especially here's to Bob and Susie for all their time and effort managing this just for me!

Go Dragons!

Re:now you see it, now you don't - 2010/04/08 07:44 Well said Jay~I also have totally enjoyed this site since I joined up (how many years ago?)

After years of constantly moving for over twenty years with the Air Force, it was so nice to find a place where people "knew me when". It has been great to reconnect with old friend and make new friends who share a common back ground.

I happen to like open topic Friday and i have followed a bit of "talkgwinnett" too. I don't agree with everything I'm reading a lot of the time but I am proud to know both Bob and Doug (not the McKenzie Bros) and glad that there are people out there who make me say, "nowaitaminute..."

I still check in everyday. I also miss the "olden daze" of this site but like B. Frost wrote, "Nothing Gold can stay"
I think that Facebook has taken away a lot of the "Hipness" of Bob's site. One thing I wouldn't mind seeing is new photos up top there. And maybe a where are they now section....I'm just sayin'

Jay, you made me smile when you mentioned Bob Addison. What a great guy. He had no clue what to do with this kid but what a great guy!

Re:now you see it, now you don't - 2010/04/08 22:19 I happen to LOVE Friday Open Topics! I get a lot of enjoyment reading the various opinions posted within those forums. I also find some of them quite informative.

BUT...What I love BEST about them is that I DON'T HAVE TO BE THE MODERATOR!!!!

You will find that I refrain from commenting on the Friday Open Topic forums. This is NOT because I don't have an informed opinion. I read and watch the news, I base my opinions on my own research. I refrain from commenting BECAUSE I am a Moderator on this site. I love to having rousing political debates in the right arena, but I will not do so on this site even on Friday Open Topic days because then people would be aware of my political opinions, and I would be UNFAIRLY accused of pulling posts that I do not agree with. This simply is not the case. I have pulled MANY posts that I personally agreed with 100%, as well as many that I totally disagreed with!! And I will continue to do so when I see a post that has the potential to stir up problems between Members.

My personal opinion does not have anything to do with which posts get pulled.

I wish I could make everyone believe that...siiiigh! I am just doing my best to keep the peace!
