Re:Teachers are people...? - 2008/01/10 16:52 I though you all were talking about Miss Brown - the PE Teacher.
Did any of you have Ms. Hove for geometry? I know my brother John (1977) had her before I got there.

Re:Teachers are people...? - 2008/01/10 16:57 I remember Mrs. Hove and Mr. Harmon.

Do you remember art teacher Carol Walters and then some really cool guy came after her but I don't remember his name.

Who remembers Mrs Mosteller for Home Economics? I had her during the lunch hour and that class was wild.

Hey Joy,
Aaahh Miss Brown, loved her! And Ms.Buell and Ms. Beard...do you remember Ms. Beard? She was only there for one or two years I think.

Re:Teachers are people...? - 2008/01/11 07:16 For Julie - who, what, where, when, why. Would that today's media took that class.

And how many Miss/Mrs. Browns were there? I kept thinking of Donna Brown who taught biology. She was the swim team coach when I was in 8th or 9th grade, and was sophomore class advisor the year my classmates experienced an episode of mass misguidedness that resulted in my being class president. Unless I am blocking an earlier episode, Donna Brown was my first severe crush on a teacher. But don't believe she was at Shamrock all that long.

I took Creative Writing with Mitzi Brown...one of her firm rules was to never use the same word twice in a paragraph. Another thing I'll never forget was her telling us to SPEAK FROM THE DIAPHRAM(sp?). You know, the one in your chest.

I think it would be great if Miss Brown decided to come back as Miss Brown. An encore would be so perfect for a drama teacher! And she always said we could use repetition for effect.

I remember the first day of class Miss Mitzi Brown told us that we had to each have a Roget's Thesaurus. I hope I remembered how to spell that. That book would enable us to never have to use the same word twice in a paragraph.

Miss Brown was a bit on the conservative side, so I had my disagreements with her. She liked to discuss controversial subjects during classes. I appreciate that a lot more now than I did then. I was probably somewhat rude to her on occasion. I respected her a lot more than she thought I did, though. I just never told her that. I now wish that I had. If she were here now, I would love to talk to her and make amends.

I hope Miss Mitzi Brown found what she was looking for when she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

Miss Mitzi Brown was at Shamrock only until 73. At least I am fairly certain of that. It may have been early 74, when tragedy took her from us.

Re:Teachers are people...? - 2008/03/05 20:38 Hey Lisa, I had Ms. Walters for art in 70. We were
always laughing in there or cutting the class. Before her in art class was Precioustine Jackson. But she was before your time.

Re:Teachers are people...? - 2008/11/07 23:34 Susie,

Was her name Ronnie Rippy? I thought she married Coach Trapani? I had them both my 8th grade year.

I had Mrs. Walters my senior year. And Lisa, so did your sister Ellen as well as Mary Waterhouse and Gary Lee Cornelius. We sat at the same table and had so much fun. Among others in that class were Sid Sellars (Varsity Football jr & sr yrs), Larry Williams, Robbie Langford, Rick Garrett, Brenda Fisher, William Jordan and I think Spencer Hostetter. Spencer and Robbie were also Montreal Woods "kids". Robbie lived on Montreal Rd. between the Canadian Way and Alcan Way entrances. Spencer lived on Canadian Way.
In my 70 annual on page 39 is a pic of the bulletin board in art class. I'm surprised Mrs. Walters allowed a sketch of a hand with third finger raised to be put up there. Suprisingly, the annual staff photographer took it's pic for all to see and it ended up in the yearbook.
I also remember Coach Harmon. Back then he coached 8th grade boys basketball.

Yes, at one point she was known as Ronnie Rippy. I never heard anything about her and Coach Trapani, so I would hesitate to say anything...

Re:Teachers are people...? - 2008/11/10 20:40 I remember Mrs. May. She was my homeroom teacher for 5 years. I think we were Homeroom class 7802, which probaly doesn't mean anything, but you never know. I wasn't in any of her classes, though.

Re:Teachers are people...? - 2008/11/11 07:18 Mrs May may have not been the "coolest or hippest" of Shamrock teachers but, (notice the comma after the but-that's the Oxford comma, which Mrs May taught us to use) what I learned in her class has taken me farther than any other one class I ever attended.
That said, we gave her such grief in the newspaper room...Bless her heart.
