Missing GA - 2009/04/02 20:42 I'm certainly elated to have found this web site. I attended Laurel Ridge Elementary, Druid Hills and then Shamrock before moving to Gwinnett County in the early 70s. As my profile indicates, I spent many years in the Air Force, sandwiched around ten years as a teacher/coach at North Cobb HS (Cobb County) and currently live in the Washington DC area working for the Fed gov't.

Two sons...one in Atlanta (27) and one in Denver (21).

If you feel like talking...give me a shout.

Gene

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/02 21:23 Welcome on this site Gene. I already like you because my Dad's name is Gene and he was a Gov. employee. And I love your enthusiasm. WELCOME I swear someday Jack...I'm gonna put a picture of me here...

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/02 22:06 Yes, Gene welcome from me as well. I remember you from school and checked out your junior pic in my senior annual. Am glad another early 70's dragon has found us! The reunions and mini-reunions as well as the smaller lunches and get-togethers are so fun. This site is guaranteed to make you feel younger! You can spend days just reading here. I'm looking forward to reading your posts.

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 07:50 Hi Laurie,

Unfortunately, I no longer have my school annuals. I moved so often, I discarded those treasures many years ago.

It has been quite a while since I have been able to visit Atlanta for more than a day or two. Mostly to see old coaching/teaching friends in Cobb County.

Cheers,
gno

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 08:59 The dragons on this site are always trying to get those that live out of town to come home for a visit so you may be back here before you know it! The trip is worth it. Come down and we'll throw a party or at least a lunch!

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 09:03 Welcome back, Gene!

When I saw the name GSimonton come up yesterday the name Gene just popped right into that space...even after all these years!

I remember you! You were tall, blonde and handsome, and wore a red Izod sweater...wow...I sure liked guys in those red Izod sweaters...and it looks like you've gone on to be tall, grey and handsome...and us gals in our 50s really like that look!

I was Jack and Steve Hullings' sister...boy, does saying that make feel 15...

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 10:36 Hey, Gene, you're the second pleasant surprise from the Class of '71 to suddenly pop up on here this week! First it was Jennifer Moore (Grovenstein now), then you. Admittedly, "pleasant" is defined differently for you than it is for her, but great nonetheless to see you here!

I still run into Mitchell & Linda (Oakley) Touart and Guy & Pam Elmore occasionally, and I used to hear them mention that they were seeing you from time to time not so long ago. I think I'm remembering that right, no?

Glad you found the site. Send Jennifer a shout, and let's catch up sometime.

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 14:07 Good to hear from you Rick!

I haven't talked to Guy/Pam or Mitchell/Linda in a few years. Must have been back in the early 90s. Let them know I'm still around.

Thanks for the note.

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 15:11 Gail, I believe you may have been thinking of Gene Toney. Gene Simonton had dark brown hair! But after all these years that also happens to me sometimes.

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 17:27 Gosh, Laurie...I think you're right.

I've made a mistake, and now I feel more like 13.

Look, I'm even in the wrong thread! This is a Very Embarrassing Moment.

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/03 19:56 My son is watching DragonBall Z, season one, and one of the characters just said, "Go home to your mother." Now I am thinking of you Early (missing GA) and wondering if he stole that line from you? Well just ShamWow me! **more cowbell**

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/06 21:32 From an old issue of "The Shamrock Scoop" dated Apr 4, 1969 there was a piece written about Gene. Since you recently joined this site this is to bring it all back to you! It said...
Rehoboth Presbyterian Church sponsers Shamrock's Athlete of the Month Gene Simonton- For his superior performance in gymnastics, Gene merits this recognition.
It also has your sophomore year picture!

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/07 06:53 Wow...I do not remember that. Kind of wish I had kept that stuff. I could show it to the grandkids!

Re:Missing GA - 2009/04/07 09:22 Gene, you didn't have to save any of that stuff -- you can just take the grandkids on a tour of Laurie's truckload of memorabilia...

And you need to watch out in here...there is no telling what somebody else might remember that you don't, but collective memory works both ways!
