Rare Civil War Photos - 2010/03/12 06:41 Original Civil War Photos
Probably a million wet plate photos were made during the civil war on glass plate. Popular during the war, they lost their appeal afterwards and so many were sold for the glass. Many used in green houses. Over the years the sun caused images to disappear.

The photos on this site are pretty amazing considering they were taken more than 150 years ago. Click on the photo to enlarge.

Re:Rare Civil War Photos - 2010/03/15 12:37 Thanks for sharing, Doug. These photos almost speak, don't they? Among other things, they remind us of the ravages of war fought on American soil that, in many respects, was not all that long ago. Sobering stuff, isn't it?
