Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 15:28 Hi, Jackie!
Yeah, I heard from Miss Hale a few years ago, too. Probably at least 7-8 years ago. I know she'd love to be able to get in touch with lots of her old students. She always tried to keep up with folks. I'll try to find her, too.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 20:44 I am so glad someone brought up Idlewood. We moved into Harbour Oaks and hung out at Drayton Woods Pool all summer. I remember Mrs. Ainsworth, Mr. Hood, Mrs.Smith. I remember Mrs Lawson asking me to help her hook her necklace. She used to throw candy bars out to us. I was remembering what a big deal it was to be able to chew gum in the 7th grade. I talked to Mr. Lavender not long ago. I remembered being in his office for something I did and looking at all his snoopy stuff. Do yall remember Mrs. Williams?

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 22:10 I remember Mrs Williams bringing pink barrettes to put in Bill Nashes hair, because she considered it
" long haired hippie"

I remember the first boy to ever call me,
Sweet, gentle, Gordon Light, dying from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
His parents told me he spoke a lot about "his friend " I check my kids head to toe for ticks every time they come in from the woods , just in case.

I remember Mrs Ainsworth did not shave her legs, or underarms.

I remember Mr Hood being funny and fair.

Mr Doar was always nice, and he always asked me the exact same "surprise " question to see if I was paying attention.

Mrs Cartlidge and her after school art, was a godsend for me. I am sure I was probably the only latch key kid in the school at that time.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/13 06:57 Oh yes...I remember Idlewood well! I went from first grade through seventh grade there.

I remember Mr. Doar (not Door) very well. He was always a favorite of all the kids. And of course, Mr. Lavendar was wonderful...

When I was in the 5th grade I had a crush on a 7th grader...Victor Robinson! Oh man...I thought he was "The Stuff!" We even had a special wave for each other (in MY mind)! That was until one of my older brothers explained to me what "shooting a bird" was! LOL! Alas Victor, I moved on! Hehehe!

Re:Idlewood - 2007/10/09 09:48 Yes, I went to Idlewood too, and lived on Johns Rd. and had to cut through the Stapps yard to get into Montreal Woods and catch the bus. It was a long way to walk. One day in the spring time, I started picking up caterpillars, and putting them on my books that I was carrying. By the time I got in my yard, they were crawling all over me and I looked down and saw them and went into a condemption fit. Screaming, crying, and running around as if that would actually help. Anyway, I loved Idlewood. I was in 2 talent shows in 6th and 7th grade. The 1st year I sang a song about Divorce, and Robby Scott was in the front row, laughing his head off, so I got distracted and stuttered. The next year I sang "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". That was fun. Bob Spivy was always behind me in class or in line, because it was alphabetical order. I just loved him and I was very sad when I heard he had been killed in that accident. I remember that I cryed at my 7th grade graduation, because I didn't want to leave Idlewood.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/10/09 12:08 Why did you go to Idlewood, that would be Rehoboth territory wouldnt it. Darlene Stapp went to Rehoboth. I thought Johns Road was in Reboboth territory also. Or is this another Stapp family?

Re:Idlewood - 2007/10/09 18:29 I went to Idlewood in the 6th/7th grades. I remember Mrs. Ainsworth & Mr. Hood for sure. I remember going to Washington, DC for the patrol trip on a train & it snowed when we were in New York for a couple of nights. Vanita Boulware & I became best friends at Idlewood. We have been through everything together. I also have a penpal in Scotland from 6th grade. We all wrote a class over there where that teacher passed out our letters. Mine was given to a girl named Ann Fleming. She was one of the few students that answered back. We wrote tons of letters to each other way back when & now exchange notes at Christmas time. Does anyone else out there still have their Scottish penpal? I am amazed that we have managed to stay in touch all of these years. I hope to be able to travel there to meet her one day.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/10/09 20:44 The Martin crowd lived on Johns Road and we went to Idlewood, too. Well MOST of us did...Ronnie and Mark went to Rehoboth and I believe Bud and maybe even Brian STARTED elementary school there, but finished at Idlewood. I went to Idlewood starting in first grade, all the way through to seventh grade. I know the people that lived in Montreal Woods went to Idlewood as well. I think the cut off was at 285, not sure.

Yes, I remember Mrs. Ainsworth....she was my only friend in 6th grade during the traumatic time when two of the original "mean girls" (who shall remain nameless because they are SHS grads, too) decided to bully everyone into ignoring me. Mrs. Ainsworth taught me that no matter what anybody said about you, you had to stay true to yourself. She also taught me that my TRUE friends would be back for me, and that anybody that didn't come back, wasn't a real friend anyway. She was a smart woman! My best friends today are the ones that came back to me way back then!

I remember Mr. Hood and his wooden leg. I remember the day he took it off in class and showed it to us! COOL! And who could forget Mr. Doar? (Yes, Melanie and Traci's Dad!) He was probably one of the most beloved teachers in the history of Idlewood! And the Principal, Mr. Lavendar, was the nicest person I ever got paddled by!

Re:Idlewood - 2007/10/10 03:59 I remember many things about Idlewood. My mother taught 2nd grade there. She was Mrs. Barrett back then. Did any of you younger folks have her? I remember Mrs. Williams wearing a red AND a white shirt on field day (one on her arms and one on her legs) so she could holler for both teams! I remember the day she lost her mother saying you only have one mother and when she is gone you miss her and it hurts. I remember playing "flying dutchman" and fainting on the playground. Does anyone remember being in the play "Oliver"? where Jerry Donham played the lead role and Mr. Lavendar was Fagan? I also remember the day Martin Luther King was shot...and the very First Earth Day when we walked the neighborhood and picked up trash. Oh, well, to be young and carefree again. We just didn't know we had it so good. P.S. Mr. Hood did not care for the Class of '75!! Just ask Becky Dryden Wallace..haha lisa barrett daniels
