Cooks Pharmacy - Decatur - 2008/05/01 23:46 Cathy Jolley, who is a member of this site and a 1977 graduate, contacted me today and asked me to post this forum on her behalf (she is new to this site and hasn't learned how to post things yet).

Her message:

Cathy noticed that several forums had been posted with memories of Cook's Pharmacy at Shamrock Plaza. Dr. Cook, the pharmacist and owner of Cooks Pharmacy passed away this week.

For more information on his death or the services which are planned for this weekend, please contact Cathy Jolley via private message or email.

Re:Cooks Pharmacy - Decatur - 2008/05/02 11:17 Thanks for letting us know, Cathy.

We saw Dr. Cook on a regular basis for a while, when he was working part-time at Stacy's Compounding at their Scott Blvd. location. I'm sure he was in his 70s then. He recognized my last name! Hank's family used Cook's for years...back in the days when they ran deliveries in their little Volkswagen bug...

I think he said he had retired, but decided it wasn't as interesting as working. He was really enjoying it there because they made the drugs from scratch, rather than just dropping pills into a bottle. Stacy's fills veterinary prescriptions -- Dr. Cook was making eye drops for one of our dogs. We stopped seeing Dr. Cook when Stacy's moved to Piedmont/Cheshire Bridge.

Re:Cooks Pharmacy - Decatur - 2008/05/02 18:01 My mother told me a few weeks ago that they had called in hospice for Dr.Cook. WE all need to keep his wife, Sally Cook, in our prayers. She found out that she has cancer also.

I am very sad to hear about Dr. Cook,he was a great guy as were his wife, son Mike and Jerri. I started buying all my baseball cards there back in 1966[wish i still had those,i would probably be retired!].Jerri to this day still made THE BEST banana splits at the fountain and they were 55cents! Used to buy one w,5 pks.of cards every Friday, when mom gave me my allowance.
