Apts. You've Lived In - 2008/06/08 14:14 Back in the 70's and 80's I moved around a lot. I mean a LOT!
I hardly had time to get unpacked when I'd move again! That was crazy but what I did!
My first place was Rockbridge Apts. on Northern Ave. at 285 and Memorial Drive. My roommate and I lived in a the top end apt. with a beautiful skylight! I loved that apt. The complex is still there. Coming from Memorial Dr. down Northern Ave our entrance was the first one on left after passing Treasure Island (now a DMV). Then our bldg was the first one on the right. We had to walk down about four flights of stairs to get to the laundry room which was in the basement. I stayed there a year. My roommate's sis moved in for about 6 months and wasnt helping with $$$. It was only a two-bedroom apt. and I couldnt see continuing that arrangement.
I then moved to Woodcroft Apts. behind the Bonanza on Memorial Drive. I moved in w/o any livingroom furniture. I had one wingback chair, a couple of parsons tables, two lamps, an outdoor lounge chair and TV. I bought my first livingroom furniture at Aaron's after moving in. I bought a sofa and armchair in that wonderful seventies plaid. I also got insurance to cover anything that may happen while living there. And, that wasn't long. I moved after 6 months!
Next I moved into some rinky-dink apts on Smith St. in Clarkston. Didn't like these. I know I was there when Elvis died Aug. '77 and my bro Clark and his wife were there with me a few months.
I left there and moved back to mom & dad's but only stayed there 3 months. Once you've lived on your own it's hard to move home.
My favorite apts were North Indian Creek Apts in Clarkston. I had a blast while living there. This was in the late seventies. I was in an upstairs 2-bedroom and was there about 3 yrs. I have some good memories from the time I spent there. I should've stayed put but moved again.
Next I went to some apts. on North Decatur Rd. near Indian Creek and Memorial Dr. I don't remember the name and was there about a year.
Meadowrun Apts in Clarkston near Hwy 78. Fun times here from around '80 or '81 until '84. My roommate would leave the place a mess. So I was out of there.
Went to Memorial College apts across from Dekalb
Stadium and was there a year then moved to Overlook Apts off Peachtree Ind. with a friend from work. We stayed a year then her parents rented us a nice home in Norcross. We stayed there two years until her parents moved back in. From there I went to my last apt. Quails Lake Village on Jimmy Carter near Hwy 29 and Mtn. Ind. I met the guy across the hall from me, got engaged 2 yrs later, bought a house and got married. That ended my very long list of apartments. I'm tired just thinking about all the moves I made.
Let me hear about yours!

Re:Apts. You've Lived In - 2008/06/08 15:09 Laurie,

Good note about apartment living. Here is my apartment-living history (for those who care):

1973 - The Huntington apartments on LaVista Rd. near Northlake Mall. This is where we moved after my mother sold the house on Delcourt Dr., a few years after my parents divorced (to this day, not sure why she sold the house, because part of the divorce decree stipulated that she get to keep the house). Anyway..
In the fall of '73, I left Huntington and moved out on my own for the first time to the Windsor Arms apartments, on E. Ponce De Leon hard by I-285. I lived there with a couple of different roommates and stayed there until the end of January 1975.
On Feb. 1 of '75 I moved to the Stone Mill Run apartments in Stone Mountain, and lived there by myself for almost 2 1/2 years. That was a nice 1-bedroom apartment and what I really enjoyed about living there was the quiet. I believe those apartments are still there, as are the former Windsor Arms apartments (which are called something else now).
In June of '77, I rented an apartment with my older brother, who had recently returned from living in New Orleans. This was at the Druid Valley apartments on Briarcliff Rd. right near N. Druid Hills Rd. Lived there for a year, and that was the end of my apartment-living career. Bought my first house in May 1978 in Morningside, lived there for 10 years, and have lived in my current house, also in Morningside, for almost 20 years now.

Re:Apts. You've Lived In - 2008/06/09 08:18 I lived in Seven Springs Apartments in Clarkston back in 1983. I rented a one bedroom. My first time living alone, and on my own. It was awesome. I lived there for a year. Then, moved to Royal Woods on Mtn. Industrial (which was all adult at that time), and had a roomie. We lived there for a year. I loved the pool! After that, it was a 2 bedroom duplex, alone! Located in between Cheshire Bridge and Peachtree St. I can't remember the name of the street. I didn't live there for very long becuase there was a string of break ins in the area, and I decided I didn't want to be next on the list. I didn't have much, but was determined to keep what I had.

I then moved to Westwood Apartments off of Norcross Tucker Rd. First with a roomie for six months, then moved into a one bedroom by myself. I always enjoyed having my own place.
