Re:Smoking - 2008/08/26 19:01 I went to the doctor, filled my prescription, and started taking the Zyban yesterday.

I have only had 6 cigarettes today. That may sound like a lot to some, but considering I would normally have already smoked 25 to 30 by this time of day .... hey, I'm feeling really good about this effort!

My last day of smoking will be Friday - if not sooner.

Yessssss!

Thus as an analogy for quitting smoking - run through the rainy bits, mind the potholes and keep your eye on the road ahead, and you'll reach your goal.

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/27 08:52 I am so proud for you guys. I know that I need to quit myself. Although I don't consider myself to be a big smoker (5 a day), it is something that I have been doing on and off for many years. I think I might be ready to lay them down for good. I will keeping watching to see how things come along with you folks....

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/27 14:25 Way to go girl. Mona, you sound like you have this thing under control. I smoked one this morning and then after I got to work I tried 3 different times to smoke, but after 2 or 3 tokes I had to put them out. This is my 6Th day taking Chantix and I really like it.I gave away a pack and a half, plus my lighter. I am supposed to quit tomorrow anyway. I do not feel stressed or anything like I did about 6 years ago when I quit for 2 months. That was using Wellbutrin. I was a nervous wreck and my boss at the time handed me his cigarettes and told me to go and smoke. That was all it took. I was hooked again. This time I no longer live with a smoker and I am more determined to stick to my guns. Thanks everyone. I will be checking back in.

Re:Smoking - 2008/09/22 08:02 Well, I am still not smoking and love it. I have to say that the last couple of days that I have wanted one, but have held fast. This is probably the best thing that I have done for myself ever. I am concerned about when I am no longer taking the Chantix. I just started my 2ND month supply and will have to take a 3rd. I go to the doctor today to check in with him on how I am doing. There are some small side effects, but not anything that I can't live with.
Mona, how are you hanging?

Re:Smoking - 2008/10/01 09:23 ...and on a “lighter” note :

Today makes my 33rd completely smoke-free day! I guess that since it’s now been more than a month, I’ll start counting by weeks instead of days.

I quit smoking after 5 days of taking Zyban. However, I was having such severe nighttime stomachaches and headaches that I had to quit taking the drug only 3 days after I laid down the cigarettes – it was kinda like quitting smoking twice in one week! Luckily, I was on vacation that week so I didn’t have to deal with those pesky little stress-induced smoking triggers of work.

For anyone who may be wondering, my child and husband are still alive and well!

And, Robin, me too! There are moments (and I guess there always will be) when I want a smoke so bad my mouth waters! But those moments are coming much less frequently and are passing much more quickly!

Robin, I think you will do just fine when you quit taking the Chantix. By that time you will be 3 months smoke-free and more in the habit of not picking up a cigarette than picking one up!

Yea Robin and me!!!!!

Re:Smoking - 2008/10/01 17:21 Thanks, Theresa.

I must say that I might not have stopped had it not been for Elaine starting this forum and for Robin setting the date! It helps knowing someone else is doing this, too - and doing it well. (WTG, Robin!)

I should also throw out a loud shout of thanks to Doug W for sending me some great No Smoking Tips and a whole lot of encouragement! Not to mention all the others that have posted their successes in quitting the insanity!

Re:Smoking - 2008/10/01 20:02 Congratulations girls....you've made it through the absolute toughest part of quiting smoking.
As a former smoker who succeeded and failed at quiting several times, I just wanted to give you a warning that you may not have thought of. I wasn't a life long smoker...but did start in college and smoked a pack a day..2 on weekends days for about 4 years. I tried to quit a few times and finally did....for 7 years and started back. It took me another year and a half to quit again. It's been 16 years now. Most people know about the stress triggers that might make them relapse. For me....every time I started back, it was due to being overconfident that I had beaten the habit and convinced myself that just one drag off a cigg wouldn't hurt. Next it's hey give me a stogie a week later. Before you know it......pack a day again! Once you learn to enjoy a cigarette....you will always at some point smell one....and go...geeze that smells good.....for the rest of your life. The good part is that those urges get further and further between...just as the are for you now.
So...if you get the idea to just take a drag, cause it's no big deal...you've got it whupped. Think again. Remeber those first 3 days of cigarette obssesion after quiting?
If you do relapse......Just don't give up...Thomas Edison failed thousands of times before getting the light bulb to work.

Keep at it

It makes it more of a challenge to have someone there with you achieving the same thing. All the rest of you have been a great support and help to us and I really want to thank you all. Yesterday made 8 smoke-free weeks for me!

By week 6 I'd gained 5 pounds so ... I bought a bicycle! I've even made it all the way around Stone Mountain. Admittedly, I've had to walk the bike up a couple of the hills ... but I'm gonna beat those hills by the end of November!

My former co-smokers at work have been stopping me as I pass thru the "smoking lounge" asking where I've been. Their expressions when I tell them I quit "X" weeks ago are something akin to "Dang we lost another one."

Keep it up Robin - I'm right there with ya!
