Concerts at the Municipal Auditorium - 2009/01/27 19:58
OK here goes. My first concert was in I believe 1970. Gary West and I used to be very good friends and he called me one day to see if I wanted to go see Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes and Alice Cooper. I told him sure. OMG I had no idea and was hooked on concerts from that point on. So here are some of my favorites:
Ten Years After - every show they did - I'm a big Alvin Lee fan Alice Cooper - Love it to Death tour Jethro Tull - Aqualung tour Johnny Winter Edgar Winter - all I could go to Allman Brothers - I think both Duane Allman and Barry Oakley were still living the first one I saw. Deep Purple - many of their concerts Bloodrock Uriah Heep Emerson Lake & Palmer with Yes - Jeanie Hall and I have a story with that one, and actually ELP became one of my favorites to go to Leon Russell - excellent! Joe Cocker Elton John - this one was funny as Gary and I went to this one together and most all the people attending were wearing formal gowns and tuxes. There Gary and I were in our jeans and tee shirts - boy did we get looks. Mountain - many of theirs. Grand Funk Railroad Black Sabbath And my all time favorite concert ever was Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon. Fleetwood Mac opened up for J Geils and rocked the house. I know I am leaving some out - but these were some of my favorites.
Hopefully everyone is not too burned out to share.

I did and working on going. But thanks for the info., I never know when I might miss one. I still like to go, but tickets are way more than $3.00 these days. Shoot the service charge is more than that these days. That was another thing, when you look back, tickets were $3.00, $4.00 and $5.00. Of course we bought the cheap ones then got down on the floor and leaned on the stage. Guess that's why my kids complain I can't always hear them .

Oh yes! The good old days. We did love going to the concerts. Traffic was a great one. I think I went with Bobby Chesson and Howard Stewart. I wish I had saved all the ticket stubs. Remember when Procol Harem was the back up band for Mountain?

I still have my beer bucket from, "The Great Southeast Music Hall". It hold pencils & other random stuff. I saw some good shows back in those days. B. B. King comes to mind. I saw him at Center Stage 20 years later and the guy looked like he didn't age a day.
I had all my concert tickets in a glass coffee table top when I was single and living in an apartment. When I got married the tickets had to go, I put the stubs in a picture frame, now hanging in the shop/ garage. I must have 40 ticket stubs. That's a lot of getting lost coming home from Atlanta.

Way too cool to have those ticket stubs displayed in a frame. And Jeanie I do remember Procol Harem opening for Mountain. I always tried to get one of Corky Lang's drum sticks as he would break one as he was playing and then throw it to the crowd. But alas, I was too short!

OK I'll add some memories of the Auditorium (as best I can remember
James Gang (good show) Deep Purple (over rated!) Manfred Mann (too bad the only thing people remember is the Springstein knock-off) Black Oak Arkansas (when's the last time you heard that name?) Genesis (Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour), with Gail who remembers sitting behing the columns. Grateful Dead
I didn't see J Geils there...saw them at the Fox opening for Humble Pie (who could have stayed home after that show)
Of course, you had to stop at the Krispy Kreme on Ponce after the concert.
As for the Great Southeast Music Hall...the best!!! Especially the original location.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Doc Watson Vasser Clements Jerry Garcia (Old and in the Way tour) Harry Chapin Glenn Phillips
I could go on and on...
Want to start a list of concerts at the High? There was that time Steve Morse did a solo thing...

Way too cool - well at least someone knew someone that got one of those drum sticks. And I did go to the midnight concerts at the Fox. One memorable one was Marshall Tucker Band, and Greg Allman came out - or I should say stumbled out to jam with them for awhile. Greg was quite messed up, but got through it.
Also Hank I did see James Gang at the auditorium also - good show.

Yes, Debbie. I think I was at most of the same concerts you went to at Municipal Aduitorium. My favorite was Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes and Alice Cooper which I posted earlier when Marshall and I were reminiscing about the old days. Another fav was an Allman Bros show that I got into to somehow without a ticket. That was when Duane was still alive and I had a birds eye view of the band. I still have quite a collection of ticket stubs myself. Oh, for the prices of the concerts back then - less than $10 each for the shows! Now it's $150 per ticket to see some of the larger acts..... I guess I'll just have to on memories..... $150 is way too much!!

We had our hands on his mike cord, I was going to pull it his outstretched hand(he was 6'6") and we would pull the microphone off and run. He did not think the microphone would just pull away from the cord, so we did not attempt the theft. Later the roadie came up and pulled it apart and I was saddened as my devious scheme would have worked.
It was my recollection that Climax Blues Band opened for Kansas and Queen though. Freddie did look sweet in his pastel blue jumper with open chest. I should have known he was gay but the thought just never occurred to me. I was so innocent back then.

I pulled out my ticket stubs and it was definately Mahogany Rush. In fact, somewhere in my storage boxed I have some really great close up pics of Frank Marino and that SG that he used to play. I remember turning them in as an assignment for,,,, oh,,, what was the teacher's name that taught Photography ? I can picture him, young, dark hair and a moustache... anyway, I have some good ones of Steve Mariott, playing and singing while holding onto a bottle of Jack Daniels the whole time.
And I was the same way,, I always thought, Man, that Freddie Mercury sure is a good looking guy, bet he can get any woman he wanted!! Who knew he never wanted one. A shame that he died the way he did.
