Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/30 17:33 Here's a thought and you may agree or disagree ( but opinions are like ...noses...)

I am wondering if, on this site, there would be room to put "reunions, lunches and that sort of topic in their own box. If it is a matter of space, maybe we can do away with the quick poll?
It seems to me that other topics get pushed out for all the BTTT nonsence.....Now, it could just be that I am jealous that you all get together and have so much fun....One day, I 'll get down there and be the "Tall hog at the trough! Until then....is there anyway to move the meeting to their own space?

Just a thought

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/30 17:39 well, bless you sweet heart, Gail.

It would be cool beacuse they could add directions, menus, photos, ride shares (or local taxi cab numbers) and just all sorts of stuff!

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/30 17:54 Yeah...I think it's that place there on the left that says "Register for Upcoming Events"...

It's to the left under "Register for Upcoming Events," but people don't seem to see it!

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 00:20 Maybe I'm missing something but does a very small lunch count as an upcoming event? Usually during the week not many came make it. There could be as few as 3 or as many as 6. And I don't know how to add it to the event registration anyway. Anything to help save space, etc. I'd like to do.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 09:31 Laurie, I'm just one person here, but I think that in the final week of an event, there is certainly good reason to keep a post up on the board to be sure folks are aware of it.

I guess us locals forget sometimes that there are a whole bunch of folks who come in here to chat who aren't local, and when an event is one or two months out, they do indeed monopolize the board...add the Friday topic, and that's really reducing the choice of topics down to one or two...

Furthermore, I'd have to say that BTTT is not a very interesting post...

I've had friends and family who don't spend much time in here ask why the events are listed as posts, and why they run a list of attendees...are they using them to draw people in or scare them off?!

Really, though...those of us who are lucky enough to be able to attend these events, regardless of their location, need to give some thought to those who can't -- photo posts after the event are fun, but the posts themselves are sort of like commercials...time to leave the room!

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 09:59 ok guess im the one this post is directed at.. sorry for bringing post back to the top. ill try to refrain. the "register for upcoming events" is something that is a new feature and not all know that it is there.and to post an upcoming event you half to email BOB your event info and he will post the event in the register area.. and some poeple dont know the process because the feature is a new one.origionaly this feature was not there , hence the list in the forums. the list were there to try to draw more to come, not scare anyone away.

i am sorry if i offended anyone..i did not mean too.

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 10:45 No offence taken and I also hope I did not insult you. I do agree and think Gail is right that it kinda drives us off....BUT, the photos afterwards ARE GREAT FUN! Keep 'em coming!

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 10:57 While BTTT is not an interesting post, the act of keeping the post in front of everyone is a tradition which began during the initial Oasis minis, and as we all know kept the enthusiasm going until we all met. I recall Gail, and I am sure other critics who participated in those events enjoyed the BTTT for "their" events. I am sure there are several posts that have absolutely no interest for some, and the mere fact that they are on the board at all is a mystery. The one's who plan on participating in ROCK CITY at the Moonshadow or 25th at Famous Pub, frankly see no problem with the BTTT posts. So I believe if you don't like something, change the channel!
The wonderful thing about this site is that you can change the channel while still staying logged in; just post something you find interesting and see if others agree. I have posted several things; some were read by many and generated lots of conversation, while others fell flat. Criticizing others enthusiasm is not something I expected to see here, especially from the one's who were critical. Maybe they should come out out to the Moonshadow (oops, commercial time) and have a good time with some forgiving friends? Sounds good to me.

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 13:01 Critics? Offended? Directed?

BTTT...look up again, Kevin, Steve...it says..."Just a Suggestion"...and I did not start the post...

Furthermore, right after I posted this, I contributed to one of those event posts... Since when does every opinion posted deserve a personal attack? I've spent the morning typing up the Chewning/Wilson family tree in hopes of sharing it with all of you, near and far -- wearing a cervical collar and sticking to my 30 minuted sitting up limit -- I would LOVE to attend, but I'm trapped in my home for three more weeks...how's your day been going, hmmm?

Lighten up, guys!... One of these events is two months away... save your ire for Friday, please, let's keep it nice the rest of the week...

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 14:06 Hope I don't sound like I'm BTTTchin here!

I'm so punny...anyway....

KTobin, you gave me some GREAT car advice about a year ago and I would have been up a creek right now if I hadn't listened to you. so what I am trying to say is that you all (or as swooz would say, y'all) are like family and i enjoy catching up with all the doings but sometimes other posts get plucked off the screen and there can be too much BTTTing going on in here.
Love to all and hugs and peace and "go home to your mother" miz "E".

And you can take that BTTT

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 16:42 Will do Juledene. I see I struck a chord about changing the channels. It's great to see so many new topics posted on the forums. Yawn! I wish they would put more stuff up about ROCK CITY!
I do have just one more question for you Gail. What lit me up was when you wrote about how your friends and family were commenting that on BTTT people would run a list of attendees, and they asked if the lists were trying to show who was coming or to scare people off. I am pretty thick skinned but I can't come up with a nice way of interpreting that one. I personally don't like the lists either, but for a different reason. Seeing who is going pressures me into wanting to be there and get out of my daily rut.
I have met or re-met someone new at every event I have attended, and I must say had I seen their name on the list of attendees i would have come anyway.
So my 2 cents has been spent on this one. The next time I have to read what somebody thinks is wrong with this site or with people on it, I may not be so delicate about it. Love you all................

Re:Just a suggestion.... - 2009/03/31 16:46

Can't we all just get along???

The Event Registration is a rather new feature to the site. It will take time to get people used to it, but we are trying. Also, an event will only be listed there if an Administrator is asked to do so.

I try to delete as many BTTTs as possible (they DO get annoying), and I also try to keep only the most recent running list on the page.

Keeping up with the site takes more time and effort than many of you might realize, but I try to do the best that I can. However, I can't please ALL of the Dragons ALL of the time! SORRY!!!

LOVE YA, MEAN IT!
