8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/08/31 13:58 To celebrate the beginning of another football season, a football trivia question. I was sweeping out the Dragon's Lair the other day, and came across these gems, and wondered if ANY other high school in America has the same treasure in their trophy case?

Can you name TWO (2), that is t-w-o!!!! Shamrock Dragons who have, in their Dragon's Lair, a SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONSHIP RING ?????

A stale cookie for you if you can identify one of them, and a whole case of stale cookies if you can identify any beyond the two whose rings I found in the Lair the other day...

Happy football season, and best of luck to your team (unless your team is Oklahoma State! I do have limits)

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/08/31 20:07 Winner! BobG76, may we have a stale cookie for Mr. Moore?

Jeff Saturday, center for the Indy Colts, graduated from Shamrock with the class of 1993 (I believe - he committed to UNC to play in 1993.

All ACC Center at UNC in 1997. More details coming soon.

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/01 01:21 Aww, c'mon, I knew that one... although I don't know how. I think I watched that game where he recovered the fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Another Colts lineman did the same thing, making it the only Super Bowl(?) in which two linemen scored TDs.

Ken is going to have to earn this `stale cookie.` If he gets the other half of your trivia question, he's earned it. That one has me stumped... and I cheated (read `Googled`)!

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/03 10:24 OK - I thought this one would be tough, and either it is, or everyone is bored with trivia!

Another clue: The Dragon with the second Super Bowl Ring ALSO has an NCAA Football Championship Ring. (That's some Dragon's Lair, isn't it?)

By the way, Happy Labor Day everyone. And happy birthday, sis!

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/05 11:44 OK - there's too much other Dragons' Lair trivia out there to keep this one going much longer. There are truly many, many fascinating stories in the kingdom...

One last clue, that hopefully will break the dam on this one. If you don't have a guess, but want to keep the question open a while longer, just post a note and let me know you care

OK -

What Shamrock Dragon has a SuperBowl Ring in his Dragon's Lair of treasures? (Besides the already identified Jeff Saturday, SHS Class of '93, Indianapolis Colts)

Clues:
1) This Dragon also has an NCAA National Championship ring (football) in his treasure lair.
and the final clue:

2) He was a Shamrock High School Dragon when Dragons turned into Devils, but HE turned into a Panther! (Do you want me to draw a MAP?????!)

There, except for spelling it out, that ought to take care of it. Now let's get this taken care of so we can salute this Dragon, and bring out some more treasures!

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/06 12:04 Time is up!

Cosey Coleman
has a SuperBowl (2003) ring from the Tampa Bay Bucaneers, and an NCAA Championship ring from the Tennessee Volunteers (1998).

He was a Dragon as long as there were SHS Dragons, and when they made the Rock a middle school, merging it with Druid Hills, he transferred to SW DeKalb. SWD had just won the state championship with a state coach of the year. He signed a scholarship offer to play at Tennessee, and was an All-American there.

Now, who is willing to be the first to say, "I THOUGHT it was Cosey Coleman...." ?

Aside: When did all the '70's era SHS football coaches retire? Were any of the coaches we talk about here onsite still coaching in '95 when we middle-sized? (Coaches East, Ramos, Upchurch, Blackerby, etc...?) I know they got to coach Lee North, but wondered if they ever coached Jeff Saturday or Cosey Coleman...?

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/07 13:31 Marcus,

Lee North, #66, Center, is listed on the roster of the Tampa Bay Bandits, 1984 & 85 USFL team Link

I haven't been able to find others in the USFL yet, but continue to search. I've got some other football history that I'll post soon. Other sports are less easy to find on the web - I'd love to hear more from others on other sports. I know we've had some great runners...any awards or titles won in other sports?

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/22 10:29 Mylan Lefevre was a cousin to Mike Lefevre. The original gospel group that Mylan Lefevre's parents started was The Lefevre Trio who sold to Rex Nelan Singers. There were 3 Lefevre men, Raliegh (Mike's father who was not in the band), Alfus, who had a son named Scott that went to Henderson) and Urise (Mylan's father). Alfus, Urise and Urise's wife Eva Mae were the Lefevre Trio.

Uncle Alf, as we called him then started a group called The Lefevre singers. It was a group that included Uncle Alf, Mike Lefevre, Scott and other singers. Mike went on to join the Gold City Quartet, a world known gospel group and then on with Brian Free and Assurance. Now his own group.

The name of Mylan's band was Mylan Lefevre Band. Mylan did not attend Shamrock, only Mike. Now, Alfus, Urise and Raliegh have all passed on, but Eva Mae still sings and I see her from time to time on shows on TV. Mylan no longer sings but Mike is still going strong.

Mike's group is now The Mike Lefevre Quartet. They received the Horizon award last year in gospel music. His son, Jordan is the drummer. They also have a website: Mikelefevrequartet.com. I talked to Mike last week as they were in Louisville Kentucky and my brother Greg went over to see him. They are in Carrollton, GA November 25th at Roopville Road Baptist Church and I will be attending that show and spending some time with Mike after the morning performance.

Mike and his wife live with their 2 children and Mike's mother in Gainsville GA where Mike is also a firefighter.

He will be excited that someone remembered him. Mike and I went and applied and started working our "1st" job together Krystal on Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker! We had a blast as friends growing up. I will find out what Mylan is doing now. I have also invited Mike to join the site.

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/23 08:19 Glad to hear that Mike has done so well. I did not know he was an alumni, but I did follow Mylan back in the 80's. I played in a band (White Stone) that opened at one of his Mount Paran concerts, he had just gotten an endorsement from Peavey, and had a whole truckload of brand new DIGITAL (unheard of back then) P.A. equipment.

I didn't know about Mike winning the Horizon award, but I saw his group about a year ago, and they are VERY good, he deserves the award !

Re:8/31 Dragon's Lair Trivia - 2007/09/26 14:31 Lisa, my investigative Internet hocus-pocus is nothing beside your real-live insider information. I bow to the Queen! Great story. And another award to find in the Dragon's Lair! Horizon Award for Mike Lefevre -- Congratulations, Mike! Go Dragons!

and Julie (Braschler)! Hi! I drive through the old neighborhood every time I'm back in Atlanta, and recall many trips on the old school bus, fondly. Yes, you were one of the few girls at Shamrock who paid any attention to me, even if it was pestering at times - like there being no bad publicity, for me anyway, there was no bad attention! What in the world is a southern belle doing in Baaahhhston?
