Re:some bands i remember growing up. - 2009/04/07 12:47 Mete---Do you remember CHOICE? They played at many an SHS homecoming dance. And further, are you old enough to remember Atlanta Rythmn Section (SP) they played at SHS too. DIDn't they have a member who was from Shamrock????

Also GeneO---don't bee surprised if Swoosie bumps you to your own post with your reply....Which is a great topic by the way. I worked at the Hanscom AFB Chapel--does that count?

Re:some bands i remember growing up. - 2009/04/08 03:00 May 23 some year.... The Swinging Medallions played at my prom! Downtown at the Dinkler Hotel. First song was "Aquarius" then "If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time"! Take me back to those hippie days! Right Shirley?

Re:some bands i remember growing up. - 2009/04/10 18:45 I went to Homecoming my senior year, but I don't remember if there was a band playing that night.
There was a really good band playing later that year in the spring time. I wonder if it could of been "Choice". Were they playing at Shamrock in 78'?

Re:some bands i remember growing up. - 2009/04/10 21:30 Choice was a great working Top 40 band. While not an original music band, they always kept up with the current popular tunes. I was a big fan of theirs, and still am a fan of anybody that could bust out Zeppelin tunes like that!
And Swinging Medallions??? Awesome! "Double Shot of my Baby's Love" and "Love Potion #9".
Cool band... from Atlanta?... not sure.
Do you remember Hydra? They were a local band that rehearsed in a basement next door to my house. I used to sit there and watch their practice and just wish that I could do that someday.
Great period for music, eh?

Re:some bands i remember growing up. - 2009/04/10 21:59 The Swingin' Medallions were based out of the Greenwood, South Carolina area since the Early 60's. The music most associated with the band is beach music, frat rock, R&B or shaggin' music. After a few years of touring colleges from the Carolinas to the Louisiana Bayou, John McElrath took the group to Arthur's Studio in Charlotte, N.C. to record "Double Shot (of My Baby's Love)". The song became a million seller in '66 and has been a party classic for college students for decades.
"Double Shot" remains the signature song of the Swingin' Medallions.
Many of the Medallions attended and graduated from Lander Univ. in Greenwood, S.C. while perfoming in the southeast. UGA was also the home of some of the band members!

Re:some bands i remember growing up. - 2009/04/11 15:39 Hey Dave - I remember Hydra and I remember they used to practice next door to you. Hoddy would always talk about it. I used to go see them at the Electric Eye all the time. As well as Brother Bait and Kudzu. There were some others, but their names escape me, these were the best though. Also there was one called Celestial Voluptious Banana. They played at one of Shamrock's dances.

Re:some bands i remember growing up. - 2009/04/12 07:46 Hey, do any of you remember the Shorty Watkins Band? They played the Boom Boom Room a lot. That girl in the band could sing and she had some set of lungs. She sounded just like Janice Joplin. They were really good.
