Hello! - 2007/07/24 19:28
What a cool site to have. I have so often wondered about good ol' SHS.
Some of you may remember me, but most will remember my sister Audrey Adair. No, we are not, never were, and never will be twins!!!!! I am the oldest by a couple of years but unique circumstances dumped me into the same grade with Audrey when we started Shamrock. Poor girl had to live with that.
So, I have been teaching school forever and this coming year completes 30 and my final year. Teaching is not what it used to be and I feel very burned out. My first goal after next year is to travel to Great Britain, then that winter my husband and I will rent a house on St. George Island (Fla) for the month of Novemeber. I have it all planned...
I have been married for 25 years. Unfortunately no kids, but a wonderful Boston Terror..oops, Terrier fills a lot of needs. Would love to hear from anyone... anybody out there know what happened to Kenneth Harris, our choral director? In spite of the fact we sometimes laughed at him, all of those who were in chorus at the time truly loved him.
Audrey is doing great and lives in Snellville (Grayson) with her husband and two sons. She is thinking of enterering the work world again after 20 years as a housewife. Can anybody out there help her?
I can ramble on and on but will not. Hope to get a reply post from some of you!

Hey, Cyndy! I remember your name, and why we all thought you were twins I'll never understand!!!
Sounds like we went down similar paths - I've been married 25 years, no kids, but have a cute little West Highland Terror (oops! I mean Terrier!) My husband, Robert, & I live in Alpharetta, and just recently closed our jewelry store after 20 years. I was supposed to hang up the hat and live the life of luxury, but Robert called me out of "retirement" & now I'm an officer of his new marketing company, LimeMobileAds. 5 days a week is still better than retail! Thankfully, I really need to be busy & productive! We've been able to travel a little this year, not as glamorous as going to Great Britain, but just leaving GA has been nice. Don't lose site of your dream, I hope you will be able to live it, and more -
It's nice to communicate with a fellow Dragon - good luck on this coming school year. What grade do you teach and where?
Well, my Scooter is calling me - they say when a Westie is in the room - everyone knows it! So true!
Take care, Debbie Goodale Santoyo class of 1972

HI Debbie!
I appreciate your post. Seems like the classes of '71, '72' '73 don't have much action on the site.
It is really hard to imagine how many years have passed! I was surprised and saddened, too, when I perused the "In Memoriam" list.
I am starting my 30th and last year of teaching, all in sixth grade (well, one in fifth). This will be my last. Time to bow out.
I teach in Rabun Co. at Rabun Co. Elem. School. (We are the only school in GA with 6th grade still attached to the elementary! Causes its share of problems!) We moved into a brand new school barely two years ago, and the view is phenomenal! Rabun Co. is located in the N. GA mts for those not knowing. Clayton is a small town, but I actually live in Dillard, about 1.5 miles from the Dillard House if you ever want fabulous food.
The first thing I plan on doing upon retirement is a trip to the British Isles. Been my dream since I was Bout 10 years old!
Let's hope we hear from more of our classmates!

Hey Cyndy! I also remember you and your sister! We were all in the same Homeroom (Adair, Bailey ...) That really does seem a lifetime ago, although most of my memories of good ole' SHS were absolutely wonderful! Football games, pep rallys, Giordano Pizza after games, Homecoming floats ... I loved every minute - when I wasn't drowning my tears in having a broken heart over one boy or another! Those were the days!
So glad to see so many names I remember! Please pass on my regards to your sister! I, too, was saddened to see some of the names on the Memoriam section that I had not heard had passed away.

Re:Hello! - 2007/09/07 19:54
Cyndy,
I always thought you and Audrey were twins. Thanks for setting the record straight.
I used to work for a mortgage company in Roswell and Kenneth Harris was our IT person ... a far cry from chorus teacher. I didn't recognize him when he first started working there. Thankfully, he recognized me so we had a lot of fun talking about the good old days at SHS. He said he still stayed in touch with a few of his old students. During the time I worked with him, he had a daughter that was majoring in music in college. At that time, she wanted to do something in music therapy. It was great working with him...lots of fun. That's about all I know about him.
Where do/did Audrey's kids go to high school? My sister's son and my brother's son both went to Grayson HS. If her kids went to Grayson HS, what were their names and when did they graduate?

Hey, Cyndy!
I can't believe I just now ran across your post! I live in Rabun County, too, but just west of Clayton on 76. Have you taught all your career up here? I've only been here for 8 years, but I love it.
Are you going to the reunion?
I was trying to remember what I knew about you and Audrey not being twins but being in the same grade. Didn't you start school overseas somewhere, like Japan? My memory is sort of rusty, but for some reason that is what came to mind.
If you're in town after school hours, please stop in and see me at the Rootcellar. I work afternoons and Saturdays. I may need to talk to you about a project I want to do with one of the students (fortuitous timing, perhaps).
Good to know I'm not the only Dragon from '73 in this gorgeous part of north Georgia! (There are a couple from other classes I know about, too)

Re:Hello! - 2007/09/08 00:48
Hi Kathi!
Wow! This is such a blast from the past!!!!!!
When was it you worked with Ken Harris? I really liked him. He was truly a nice guy and all around good teacher.
Many years ago Kay Patrick, Audrey, and a couple of others of us, I cannot even remember who, found out where he lived and went to visit him one night. At the time he was choir director at Tucker Methodist Church (at least I think it was Methodist.) But it has been so long I wasn't even married then, and that's been 25 years. A short time later I understood he moved to Dallas, Texas. Perhaps he has returned to Georgia. I would love to get in touch with him.
Audrey's oldest son went to Grayson High. He graduated 2002, I think!!!! He will be 23 this December. Her youngest she began home schooling after 6th grade. He had a hard time in school. He is ADD and also had a speech problem. He just couldn't socially cope with public school. He is home schooled through Faith Academy in Loganville.
I can't wiat to tell her tomorrow about "hearing" from you. She will be so surprised. She has just spent a week in Eastside Hospital. Somehow her colon ended up having a hole in it, and it had matted her appendix and an ovary together. I talk to her everyday. and earlier the evening it happened she said she had a stomach ache all day . She ended up in the emergency room... and in emergency surgery. I spent last weekend at the hospital with her. Now she is at home, doing so much better!

Re:Hello! - 2007/09/08 00:55
Jane!
I can't believe it!!!! You live here in Rabun??? I am in Dillard!
I have spent the last 26 years of my teaching career here in Rabun. I have always taught 6th grade, first at the old Clayton Elementary and now at the new school on Boggs Mountain.
I have been to the RootCellar, but had no idea you worked there!
How long have you lived here? We came here in 1982. My husband had taken a job at Sky Valley at the time, and I used to go up and down that mountain every day. His sister lives up here. Her husband, Larry McClure, originally developed the resort. That is how I ended up making Rabun my home. I do love it here.
So, now I must make another trip to the RootCellar... to see you! Gee, this is great!!!!
Not sure about the reunion yet...

Re:Hello! - 2007/09/08 09:12
Hey Cyndy!
I just had to add to your post because I am very familiar with Sky Valley! My grandmother, Sue Lynch, left Jekyll Island for Sky Valley as one of the first homeowners up there! The name, Larry McClure, sounds VERY familiar. My "Nana" was pretty much responsible for getting the chapel built. She had to leave Sky Valley 7 or 8 years ago to live in an assisted living home in Jefferson, then moved to one in Tucker to be near my parents. She passed away at age 97 on my husband's 50th birthday in June two years ago. She was quite famous in Sky Valley. Her remains are there at the chapel. My sister, Bonny '79, got married in that chapel. You have no idea how much time we Parkers spent up there.
Anyway, just had to let you know what a small world it really is!! I hope you will come to the reunion. If you didn't attend the last multi class one, you really missed out. It was such fun! This one will be even better because of this great site that has allowed us to all "meet" beforehand!
Take care, Ann Parker Williams '75

Re:Hello! - 2007/09/08 18:35
Hi Ann!!!
It IS a small world! I knew Sue Lynch, she was a dear friend of my sister-in-law, Sandra McClure, and was at her house many times when we would be there also. She was a funny, sweet, and very kind lady. I remember when Sandra told us she died. It made us all feel sad. She was an institution!
The Chapel was once called Tom McClure Memorial Chapel, named for Larry's brother, Tom, who was a paraplegic who came to the Lord shortly before his death. I never knew Tom, but he is a legend. When my husband and I first moved here, we lived at Sky Valley since he worked there. We very often went to the Chapel services on Sunday.
I cannot wait to tell Sandra about hearing fom you. She will be so delighted! She really loved your grandmother. Sandra has recently been dianosed with ALS (Lou Gherig's disease). This will certainly cheer her!

Re:Hello! - 2008/12/30 21:54
Hi Cyndy,
Well here comes trouble! <grin> You found me. I'm still around and think of my former Shamrock singers often. Cyndy, Audrey, Kaye, Patti, Kathi, Ronnie, Steve, and many others.
I remember working with Kathi Wilson at the mortgage company as Computer Manager. It was nice to see her again.
I remember the visit to our home of you and Audrey and Kaye in about 1981. We did move to Houston, Tx in 1982 and returned to "civilization" in '87.
I work full time for Habitat for Humanity International in Atlanta doing computer support. I also direct a couple of choirs at Tucker First United Methodist Church.
Donna and I have two grown kids. Our daughter taught middle school music for four years but is now raising our only two grandkids.
Our son is a new attorney working for some judges. His wife was a Shamrock grad in the middle '90's and they introduced me to this site. I'm really pleasantly surprised at the connection here.
Congratulations on 30 years of teaching! Wow, what a major, major accomplishment. I am so proud of you.
God bless you,
Ken Harris

Mr. Harris!!!!!!!
Ha!!! How good to hear from you!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to tell Audrey!
My days in chorus at SHS are some of my favorite memories, and we really were very fond of you! We must visit again... We have really lost touch with Kaye, but quite a few of us still stay in touch. I am so glad you found the site!
Really and truly, you wre one of my favorite teachers of all time. Chorus was NEVER the same after we lost you. It is great to know you are back in GA.
I could say a lot more, but it is very late. Keep in touch! (I was pretty burned out after 30 years!)

Re:Hello! - 2008/12/31 03:40
Would that be Kenneth Harris? We didnt know you as Ken back then. I was in the Senior Mixed Chorus and class of 70. We gave a Christmas concert Dec 11, 1969 dressed in costume on stage in the cafeteria. Even you were in costume. Yours was a striped kind of Renaissance number and I believe you had dark tights on as well to complete that look. The girls wore long dresses with long sleeves and white collars that we had made or made ourselves. I made my and still have it! It was a dark, evergreen color. Yes, I'm a packrat. Do you remember that day in class when we all were singing and between songs I pressed the button of a laughing box that I had at my desk? Of course you stopped right then and I think you even let me do it again. After that though you took it from me till class was over! I'm glad you gave it back so I could have some more fun with it. Off to my next class! I remember your car you had in 69-70. I believe it was a black Valiant. Is that right? That would be vintage now and maybe was then. What year car was that? I remember the rear of the car the best It's funny what we do remember. I'm also glad to see you on this site. Gail Jolly is also registered but doesn't get online much. She said she'd rather have calls from us instead of using computers. I've talked with her a couple of times. Her number is on her profile page. She was at the multi-class reunion at Stone Mtn. and I got to see her after all these years. I hope you continue to connect with us via this site. Patty Lynch is a principal at a school in Atlanta. She was class of 73 and sang in chorus. Remember her? Remember me?

Wow what a small world it is!!! My sister Doris Durham lives in Clayton too. She works at the new Home Depot there in the front office. I remember Cyndy and Audry and yes I thought you were twins too. Hello to you too Mr. Harris...I was in the band but saw you alot since we were just next door. I wish I had sung more now because I'm in my church choir and I'm sure you could have taught me alot. My brother Mike was in the class of '70 me in '73 and Doris in '75 we called her DD then.

Hi Songman! My mom still lives in Tucker not too far from Tucker Methodist. Maybe I'll come there one day during practice with my "laughbox" that I interrupted your class with in 70!
