Fishing Tips - 2010/03/12 07:08
Fishing is what I love to do for relieving stress and just to have fun. As with gardeners sharing tips and tricks are a must so everyone has can that extra wisdom for success. I would like to share some of my wisdom for those who also love to fish or wants to learn.
1. When choosing your baits always remember to use light colors on sunny days and dark colors on cloudy darker days.
2. If the barometric pressures are high fish deep or on the bottom. Fish can't hold air at the top levels so they go deeper where they can. The reverse is true if the pressures are low.
3. Crickets don't like to get wet and they don't last in the cold they are better to use in the summer or late spring, and early fall. If it's a chilly morning use a hand warmer around your container. If you bring them home to use later put a piece of potato in the container for food.
4. Worms are good to use when the weather is a little cooler they won't last long in warm waters. Fall, Spring and even in the Winter worms are a good choice for live bait. Bass, Catfish, Bream, and Crappie all love worms especially red wigglers which are my favorite to use.
5. When the weather is warm or hot look for shady areas where trees and brush hang over especially around stumps and docks. This is where you will find many big mouth bass and large catfish searching for minnows to eat.
6. Don't shy from lakes with lilly pads use weedless hooks which you can buy at Bass Pro they really do work.
7. Keep on hand various colored sunglasses different colors reflect fish in certain waters. Try out your colors to see which give you the better edge.
8. Search areas that have drop offs even if they are only a few inches many large trophy fish can be found in these areas. They will be at the drop off point or closs by.
9. Many large catfish and bass can be found near dams and lake overflow drainages. For some reason they don't mind the noise and the waters are usually deep and cooler in the warm months.
10. Always take different color baits some lakes the fish like green and others they may like blue.
11. Watch the pro's for techniques and bait choices they have mastered the art of fishing and can give you alot of wisdom to take with you on your next fishing trip.
11. Most important don't spend more than 10 minutes in a single area if your not getting any bites.
12. Look for areas where the water tint is green or dark this usually shows vegetation that the fish will hide in or eat.
13. Take several poles with you and set up at least one or two before getting on the lake. Tie your notts with a 10 to 14 look to make sure it's secure and you don't loose your bait and hooks.
14. Rattle hooks work great to attract fish with the waters are not calm. They draw to the sound which even in muddy water they can find your bait easier. Mr. Crappie offers several sizes in a ratter float which I have used myself with a lot of success.
15. When using rubber baits make sure you hook through hiding the hook. Most packages will show you how to do this with a visual guide in the instructions.
16. Make sure you have your drivers license with you and your fishing license if you don't have both you could be fined.
17. In Georgia you can use corn if you are above Buford Dam below you could recieve a fine for having it in your boat even if the can is not opened.
18. Check with Channel 2 (WSB TV) for the best fishing times they post on their website the peaks and lows for each hour of the day. Most of the time this is accurate there are those lakes where the fish are just hungry and will eat no matter when.
19. If you want to get fish biting find beds along the banks and fish for smaller fish to start. Once one starts other's will follow in a freenzie. This will draw bigger game fish to your area.
20. If you need a cheap ancor try using a coffee can, eye hook and cement. Arrange the set up with the eye hook at the top then tie a rope through the hook and you have a very cheap and effective ancor.

I could go on and on with these type of tips as I get a chance to pass them on to you I will. If you have any you could share with me I would be very greatful.
