Re:Shamrock Middle name change - 2011/05/31 20:50 1st day with no school and all the lockers are allready gone. Never have I seen Dekalb County act so swiftly and efficiently. The remodle has begun...."hard hat area" only.
What will happen to the huge marble bench in the lobby that was given to the high school from the class of 1985?
What about the green areas on the gym floor?

It's all on it's way out.

I guess I'll have to rethink my covert op's plans.

Re:Shamrock Middle name change - 2011/07/07 07:57 Just to put things into perspective.. and cuz i love this little poem....

Where we walk to school each day
Indian children used to play ---
All about our native land,
Where the shops and houses stand.
And the trees were very tall,
And there were no streets at all,
Not a church and not a steeple ---
Only woods and Indian people.
Only wigwams on the ground,
And at night bears prowling round ---
What a different place today
Where we live and work and play!

I'm just sayin".

Re:Shamrock Middle name change - 2011/07/14 04:02 Julie! I know that poem! That is such a good one. I've gone to a total of 4 high schools in Memphis and Georgia and only one of them has changed their name. Yes, and that would have to be Shamrock. But of all of them Shamrock means the most to me. Shamrock is the one I spent more time at, made more memories and so many friends at! And so, I'll take the friends and the memories and have to deal with the name change. I will still call that school Shamrock. G.H.T.Y.M.
Love you Julie,
Laurie

Re:Shamrock Middle name change - 2011/07/31 15:46 I really hate to be the one to report this, but we all knew it was coming. I was in the old neighborhood yesterday and the new sign is up: Druid Hills Middle School. It just aint right. Nuff said.

Re:Shamrock Middle name change - 2011/07/31 23:07 Well damn! I was there just a few weeks ago and took pics since it still had "Shamrock middle" up. Notice I didn't capitalize middle. It will always be Shamrock HS to us! I've been told "you cant go back" but whenever I go to Shamrock I do go back. I can walk the halls and campus then I'm back in the good old days. Don't get out the violins please! Ah youth!

Re:Shamrock Middle name change - 2011/08/28 09:19 I knew Dekalb County would be incapable of eradicating all of Shamrock in their remodle to Druid Hills!
Signs of Shamrock still live all throughout the campus.
The ugly...I mean beautifull.. Shamrock green sticks out everywhere among the new red and black paint. Yes, the new lockers are devil red, but some door frames and window frames still have that green showing. Yes, they painted over the green lines on the gym floor with black paint, but it just dosen't look right...almost purple. The basketball backboards still have green squares on them. It says DHMS on the gym floor in red and black, but the huge green dragon remains on the wall. Their official new mascott is painted in the hall as a red dragon, but with a green shirt. The marble bench that was a gift from the class of '85 remains in the lobby. The nature trail leading towards Burt Fork creek now has permanent wood signs that say "Shamrock Forest". Hey, even Shamrock Plaza says Shamrock, not Druid Hills.

One final note on this remodle. You know that chalk boards have long been replaced by the dry erase board. Kids no longer know the horific sounds that can be inflicted nor how to clean the erasers during detention. Well now, the wall clocks have been replaced by digital ones. How will they be reassured that the clocks are syncronized if they can't watch the second hand click backwards at the top of each hour?
