Atlanta Hockey memories - 2011/06/04 14:08
With the sale this week of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg, it brings back memories of the Atlanta Flames leaving for Calgary. I had a lot of fun going to Flames games with the gang - Daniel Johnson, Randy Jackson, Martin Ogle, Jay Renfroe, Kirk Smethers, Kevin Thayer, and others I'm ashamed my memory cells have failed on...and y'all forgive me if you didn't go to a Flames game with me, but you were buddies, right?
Playing at the Omni, that unique organ music, Boom Boom Geoffrion, Dan Bouchard in goal, Willie Plett enforcing, Tom Lysiak & Eric Vail scoring, Pat Quinn on defense, and the Zamboni! Not terribly southern, but lots of fun, and even a playoff game or two (a rarity in town at that time) And always, a stop at Krispy Kreme on Ponce de Leon on the way home... cannot imagine the volume of donuts we consumed as teenagers...
Not a very wild life, but a fun one to remember.
