How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/25 10:15 Someone else mentioned this, but I can't remember who, and I have yet to see her do it, so here goes:

The Crush Thread

Upon whom did YOU crush whilst attending Shamrock, and have enough years passed that now you can reveal your secret? I'll start, and I have no shame. I already told Kevin Tobin I crushed on him (something about a guy with a guitar singing a Led Zeppelin love song does it every time - oops, hope that's not too embarrassing, Kevin), and his brother (mysterious, enigmatic, I have an image of him standing outside in the cold, wearing a black pea coat, forever cemented in my hazy memory).

Okay, that's two. Now it's your turn - who was your high school crush? More than one? Have you told him/her? What are you waiting for?!

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/25 13:18 I had the biggest crush on Cindy Hood when I was a Subby. I looked forward to sitting in the stands with the band during football games so I could see her cheering. I fell out of the stands onto my snare drum during a game and she came to my aid. The words she spoke are forever etched in my mind..."Are you OK little guy?!!!" I was mortified. I know she has joined the site so I guess this makes me bold. (or seem like a stalker!) Awwwww, that's so cute!

Nah, you're not a stalker, you're just coming clean. There, doesn't that feel better? Hey, I only mentioned two of my crushes, there are plenty more. I guess I have to have some secrets, right?

Thanks for playing along.

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/25 17:07 There were others for me too. I had a thing for any girl with a retainer. Marcia Head had the sexiest retainer smile. Wow this is liberating! "Get busy livin' or get busy dyin"

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/25 17:15 I didn't know retainer smiles could be sexy - wow. Sounds borderline fetishist, er, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/25 17:30 Gabrielle, there was acually a time after our school years that some girls wanted braces even if they did not really need them. Seriously, I remember co workers with daughters talking about it. One can only wonder why? I'm not going there!

Oh come on, let's go there.

For every style, fashion, aberration, there is someone with a fetish attached. Thankfully!

I always had very straight teeth and never needed braces, or a retainer, and I thought retainers were gross. But long hair on the boys? Instant attraction. I wouldn't call it a fetish, but yeah.

I was also always attracted to those perceived as unattainable - I loved, and still love, a challenge.

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/25 20:15 Gabrielle,
I agree about the long hair on boys, and on men as well. Though I wasn't quite as fond of it when it was my son's hair down to his waist! Might be the double standard thing, though I never thought of it that way before-

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/25 21:26 Sure, I'll be bold. This is what I posted under the topic 'Fess Up' about a month ago:

ahhhh my crush.. I remember the best part about going to school everyday was to see 'HIM'

Once I found out what classes he had each day, I would make SURE I would use the same hallways (even if it was out of my way) just so I could pass him on the way to class. I had a crush on this guy for 4 years. It would have been 5 years but he was a year ahead of me so he was gone by 1979
After the 3rd year of 'following' him around, he would almost laugh when he saw me because he knew by then I had a crush on him. I never said one word to him in the 4 years I had a crush on him. I knew by the time he was a Senior, it was 'now or never'. When we received our Yearbooks at the end of the year, as shy as I was, I got up enough courage to finally say "Would you sign my Annual?" He did it without hesitation. Thank you, David Thompson. You made going to Shamrock a lot more fun.

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/09/26 09:28 Aw, Bonny, I love that story. I have to get out my annual to see who David Thompson is, and more importantly what he looked like.

I didn't know there was a "'fess up" topic on here - hmmmm... I should look for it.

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/10/13 21:20 Bumping this topic up to see if there might be anyone else who wants to 'come clean', so to speak. Come on, who was your Shamrock crush?

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/10/14 12:20 Bonny, I can relate.

I had an extended crush on an older boy and I never spoke one word to him. However, like you, I knew his class schedule and made sure I got to just see his cute face in the hallway.

Funny, isn't it, how shy we could be.

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/10/14 20:10 And DanaLeigh, is there a reason why you wouldn't want to mention his name now? After all these years you're still keeping it a secret?

Re:How bold are you? (The Crush Thread) - 2007/10/14 21:38 Okay, I'll give y'all another one: Jamie Hunt. I think it was 10th grade for me at Shamrock, would have been '77, I guess. That was my first stalking experience - my friend Kathy and I found out where he lived and actually walked around outside his apartment! Crrrrazy!

Oh, but actually I think my first stalking experience was in 5th or 6th grade, when I lived in Sandy Springs, calling up my crush from 4th grade, Charles Kennedy, on the phone.

No, it's true, I have no shame. And I have always lusted from afar - a life filled with unrequited crushes. It was fun though!
