AM Radio - 2007/10/11 22:48 The "car" I drove to school had an AM radio with a single 2-inch speaker in the middle of the dash. 30 years later, I've got six speaker surround sound, AM/FM CD player with a 10 disc changer so I can listen to Tri-Copter Traffic on the AM Radio.

It's important for me to know where the wrecks are. If I know why my car's not moving maybe I can get a jump on the other 350,000 cars that aren't moving in front of me.

I drive from Conyers to Atlanta every day. I've yet to make it to work before quitting time. Captain Herb Emery told me to go the "back way". Unfortunately, he told 86,000 other people to go the same way. I got to work just in time to go home.

When not listening to traffic, I get the weather. It's important for me to know the weather since I will spend most of my week indoors.

Perhaps it's time I start using my CD player. Foghat will probably sound a little better with more than one speaker.

Re:AM Radio - 2007/10/11 22:52 Richard,

Let me guess... the Foghat song you are listening to on your all day commute to work is "Slow Ride?"

Re:AM Radio - 2007/10/12 08:43 Foghat sounded pretty darn good on one speaker if you cranked it up loud enough! Of course it also helped if the speaker was already blown. That would produce that nice edgy sound.

Susie, that guitar strumming Dragon is too cool.

I remember well those wras album hours. You could listen to Pink Floyd Meddle side two Echoes so often that you need not even buy the album.

WRAS (88.5 fm) is still a cool station, especially the "I Don't Care" punk rock show on Friday afternoon 4 to 6, and "Psychobilly Freakout" on Monday night - 8 to 10 I think...

Re:AM Radio - 2007/10/12 14:17 I listened to the King Biscuit Flour Hour many a time. It's too bad that there is not a lot of cool stuff on the airwaves any more. I agree that wras is good alternative radio. But it can be difficult to pick up away from town, unless you have some really good equipment. I guess I need to invest in some. It is hard for me to pick up a good signal even up here at Gwinnett Place Mall.

Re:AM Radio - 2007/10/13 10:54 Friends, seen and unseen.....Does anybody remember "the Prophet Omega"
Is your sin blacker than the belly of a black ant on a black rock in the depths of midnight?
I loved to listen to radio mystery theater and really loved the trivia on the WRNG Radio Ludlow Porch show. Some times I still call him on his funseekers radio show from somewhere up in north Georgia. Does anybody else know these shows?

Re:AM Radio - 2007/10/13 11:55 Well I didn't know of the Prophet Omega until I recently heard recordings. Nashville songwriter Larry Cordle (writer of Murder of Music Row and more) just named his new album "Took Down and Put Up" which actually comes from one of Prophet Omega's recordings. The album includes a duet with Larry and Travis Tritt. www.larrycordle.com
