Re:Southerland's 8th Gd. Civics Class, 1974-75 - 2007/11/01 16:10 I'm so glad to hear that Mr. Loyd will be at the reunion! That's terrific!

Yes, I was in AP English, and I do believe that our AP English class, in 78-79, was the first AP class at Shamrock.

Remember Peer Gynt? Deliverance? Tom Jones? We read some wild stuff in that class.

Re:Southerland's 8th Gd. Civics Class, 1974-75 - 2007/11/01 17:02 One of my favorite teachers was Mr. Byrd. (history I think) Anyway-I remember one cold winter the heating unit in the class went out he had us all write letters to the company that built it to complain. They were very sarcastic letters too. He was the first one to inspire me to make a difference in the world by writing to Companies to complain or to politicians to bring about change..... I will never forget him. To this day I have written many letters to companies to complain about their products, and have gotten positive results on most...Lol

Re:Southerland's 8th Gd. Civics Class, 1974-75 - 2007/11/03 20:53 I don't remember any of my teachers from Shamrock - except maybe for one.....Miss Comegies (sp?????) I believe she was Science.

She seemed to be the only one who was concerned about my dislike for school and how 8th graders should NOT be put in a high school.

In hindsight - she was awesome.......even tho I didn't pass her class - she helped steer me in the right direction.

Re:Southerland's 8th Gd. Civics Class, 1974-75 - 2008/09/26 16:01 That was Tom Rumble and I built the moonshine. We built in Tom's basement with his dad's help.

Excellent, Blake! I finally have the answer to a question that has nagged me for lo these many (34?) years!

Again ... an excellent project - kudos! (I hope Mr. Southerland gave y'all excellent marks.)

I actually liked Mr. Southerland – he was more of a professor than a HS teacher … he made you dig deep and think. In retrospect, he was one of my favorite teachers – off the beaten path, if you will.

As for disturbing (and my hubby will testify that I am really weird about remembering jingles and theme songs) … here’s one for the books –

“bun seed sesame a on onions pickles cheese lettuce sauce special patties beef all two”

NO – I did not look that up … I just know it for some bizarre reason (AND I worked at BK!)

(PS – Byron – we must’ve been in the same traffic stop … Ha-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa!)

Mona, I do remember you working at Burger King..! Do you remember me going thru the drive thru late at night just to harrass you? I can remember ordering stupid stuff like , "a large coke hold the cup and double cheese burger hold the cheese..LOL"
