Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/11 15:51 Hi Jackie
I went to Idlewood. My family moved to Drayton Woods subdivision in 1968 (I think) and I attended Idlewood Elementary from 2nd to 7th grade. I can remember all those kids from Idlewood Acres (both sides of the street), Harbour Oaks and Drayton Woods all went to Idlewood. That must have been one crowded school!

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/11 20:27 I went to Idlewood from 2nd thru 7th grade as did my older bother Buddy and my little sister Susie. I went to Rehobth in 1st grade(which was only about a mile and a half from our house),but I guess the district changed when I-285 opened and all of us on living on Johns Road were attending Idlewood the next year. Remember Miss Buell,Mr Doar,Mrs Williams,Mrs Aiken,Mr Hood and of course Mr Lavender.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 01:38 I went Idlewood for 6th and 7th grades. I remember Mr. Lavender and Mr. Hood. Does anyone remember Mrs. Ainsworth? She was the social studies teacher for the 6th grade that would stand in the hall and direct traffic. She wanted to know where every kid was going. In her mind no kid had any business in the hallways.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 03:30 Of course we went to Idlewood! I remember all the teachers! Mr. Door had 2 daughters that went to Shamrock with us. Melanie was in class of 78 and Tracey was in class of 80. Mr. Lavender was still at Idlewood up until about 10 years ago when they turned Idlewood into a "Special Ed" only school. Not sure if it still is or not as they were talking about changing it back to regular.

We moved to Harbour Oaks in 69 so I was there 3rd - 7th grade. I even remember that we girls were not allowed to wear pants until our class got into the 5th grade! Do you guys remember that? I have all our class pictures from back in the day! I wrote on the back of them everyone I could remember. It was fun!

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 09:35 Ms. Lawson! Remember she used to give us those "independent projects" (aka busy work) to do, and then she would sit at her desk and do her nails while we "worked?"

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 10:06 Jackie,

Here's something intersting about Idlewood. The second house that Andie and I lived in was actually her parents old house on Idlehour. We got it as a "fixer upper" and ut a lot of money into it in the first year there. We were still working on it when I cacme up from work one day with the plans for the next week, my vacation, being to build a deck on the rear of the house.

I was met at the door by Andie, in tears. She had visited Idlewood where our oldest, Becky, would be going the very next. She was SO upset about conditions at the school that we actually moved to get away from it.

Too bad it went from the school you all remember to the school that we would move away from to avoid sending our kids there...

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 10:14 Alan,

Wow that's a shame someone said that it is a special ed school now. Good thing you got away. I always had good memories there. My mom always worked in the nurses station but when I would fake sick and go in there guess who was there yep my mom and she would send me back to class.
There was one time I had to go and get cotton balls for Ms Lawson so she could take off her nail polish I though my mom go thru the roof.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 10:27 I definitely remember Idlewood, too! I was in the first class to start there, too - after going to Brockett for the first part of the year. Mr. Lavender was at Brockett then, and moved to Idlewood to become the principal.

My Mom worked in the office at Idlewood for years. I ran into one of Mr. Lavender's daughters at the mall last Fall.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 10:36 Do you remember Miss Hale? She taught third grade. And, Mrs. Dodson? I still see her all the time - her son, Tim, married my sister, Anita.

Re:Idlewood - 2007/08/12 12:54 I remember my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Owen, and how I hated it when she called me "Bunny" cause she couldn't say Bonny.
She also sent me 'out in the hall' (desk included) because I assume I was bad in her class. Well, what does she expect from a child when she mispronounced my name? Hehehee
