Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2007/11/08 14:24 Laurel Ridge was fantastic! Mrs. King and Mrs. Pelletier were wonderful teachers. I remember in Mrs. Pelletier's class we used handmade checkbooks. She helped make me understand the value of money. Now I'm a penny pinching tight wad.

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2007/11/08 21:33 Well, I went to Rehoboth, where I won the spelling bee for the six grade and made it through a few rounds before losing the school title on the word ALCOHOL. (We had to do it out loud, you know.)

The post with the words mixed up, proving that as long as the first and last letters were correct the mind could handle it, drove me nuts. Those are the things that jump out of a line of print at me. I can't make it stop.

However, I too have tried to overlook grammar and other errors (like using the "other" spelling for various words) while we've been chatting online. But as a professional proofreader (my clients used to cheer when they found something to mark on a galley and finally got to whip out their pens) I find it impossible to decide what to order to at a restaurant with a sloppy menu. Ya'll have fun trying to catch me at a typo! Just don't mess with my commas...or my elipses...(Jansie) they show personal creativity.

A Laurel Ridge grad, Hank fired up at the name of Mrs. King -- he's still going on...the teacher they threatened you with from 2nd grade on...there was the time that she let him know the depth of her disappointment that he had not done his homework assignment. He never, never let it happen again.

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2008/04/25 18:13 Hey Ann,

Go Class Of 1980 !

Wow..Laurel Ridge Elementary. I remember Mrs. King the most of ALL my elementary teachers. She was THE BEST English teacher. I think alot of people have her to thank for teaching us the proper way to write.

Take Care All!

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2008/07/27 23:31 May I get Mrs. King's phone number? She had the greatest effect on me. I felt as if I had accomplished something very worthwhile by passing her class. We had to write our "Auto Biography" which is pretty funny when you factor in the age.

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2008/08/08 13:22 I went to Laurel Ridge, starting in 4th grade. I remember Mrs. King and what a great teacher she was. Remember that she used to say that we were giving her "applexy"? I am pretty sure that it was a word that she made up.

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2008/08/08 15:31 Yes, Mrs. King was a hoot. She did not want you to use the word no one(pronounced noony). Our autobiography was the most fun I had in 7th grade. And I believe the word is apoplexy-defined as being unnerved by churlren. I believe we all gave her that daily.

Speaking of 7th grade- Does anyone remember being in the choir group"the Tobin Tabernacle Choir"? We had 1 huge hit and if you can remember what it was you are The Winner! It was in the chorus teachers class and for the life of me I cant remember her name. Anyone in Mrs. Ingwersons homeroom should remember the Tobin Tabernacle Choir. We rocked.

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2008/11/10 11:18 Great memories of Laurel Ridge. I recently wrote a long letter to Ms. King, telling her of some of my fondest memories and of how much influence she's had on me (I'm in my 23rd year of teaching English). I got a reply from her (in that beautiful longhand script) about 4 days later, which I promptly posted on my memoir board. What a class act she was. And Pelletier, Phillips, etc. Does anybody remember Ms. Pitts - taught 5th grade. What a babe. My first crush on a teacher. And good old Mr. Adams. I recall he had a bronze replica of the White House or something, and he used to bang it on the front of his desk to get our attention. One day, he hit the desk so hard he cut his hand open.

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2008/11/11 13:38 I was only at Laurel Ridge for 2+ years..we moved alot before that...I do remember Ms. pitts, she left after my class to go have children...I remember Mrs. Pellitier, Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. King. I got the book -Jigs and Juleps and think of her everytime I see it on my shelf.....I just cannot get rid of it.

I remember walking to school and cutting through the SHS parking lot and being scared of all the high schoolers. I still think of Mrs. King when I write the word surely...(surly)

I hope my boys will have fond memeories of their teachers.

Re:Laurel Ridge Elem - 2008/11/15 18:46 Beverly - I went to Laurel Ridge from 1st grade - 7th grade - Class of 78'. I have an older sister, Tracey Mooney, then my older brother Pat and little sister Courtney. (I think Tracey started going to SHS when we moved to Atlanta - not sure if she went to Laurel Ridge)
We lived on Laurel Ridge Drive and I think you lived on Shetland, but I know your house backed up to my house. Julie WIlliams lived about 2 houses down from you and we friends and played at each others houses a lot! What is so funny is I always thought you were like a movie star!!!! I thought you were so pretty.
Anyway, I just joined the website, saw your posting and thought I would respond. Hope life has been as good to you at it has been to me! Take care - Jill Mooney Folk
