Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/11 19:10 Okay guys, Google who? Please give me the address. It is so strange how you get away from your home base neighborhood (like I did), after I grew up and mom sold the old house. I drove by it a couple times after that and around the old neighborhoods, and just was tooo busy and lived out in Snellville. Seemed like I just could never get back over there to visit.

Thanks friends!!!!

Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/11 22:53 When I was younger I thought that it sucked that we lived in the same place forever. I thought moving would be awesome. We moved into the Johns Road house when I was about a year old and never moved again!

I was a parent myself before I realized the sacrifices my father made so that we could have such a settled life. He turned down MANY great opportunities to advance his career so that we could have "roots." Sadly, he died before I ever got to truly thank him for that.

Now it kinda makes me sad that my Mama needs to sell the property. She has been living with me since 2001 when she had a crippling stroke. Thank goodness one of my older brothers is living in and maintaining the home and property.

If I had the money, I would buy the land from her, tear down the existing house, and build a one story home where we could live out the rest her days....and MINE!

What great memories I have of my brothers building forts in the woods and of neighborhood ballgames: football, baseball, kickball...whatever! I know several Dragons that are members on this site that at some point enjoyed that little 2 acre slice of Heaven!

Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/12 09:05 Tom,
Ricky Toney was my age class of 71. His mom worked at Rich's. Ricky was one of my best friends back then and actually got me started in the band business. He played in garage bands with Chip Sellars, Neal Dotson and Wayne Faulkner. He joined a band called Stagecoach and got me one of my first paying gigs working with them down at the old underground in the mid 70's. Ricky married a girl with very red hair named Norma, who turned Ricky to the Lord and ended his rocker days. He became an Ordained Minister and became a pastor in Kentucky where last I heard which has been years he had 8 kids!
I will ask Marty about who Gail may be talking about.

Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/12 09:25 I was wondering about him, He was a great guitar player, and it was like he fell off the face of the earth, I should have known there was a Woman behiend it all,Ha Ha , my mother knew his mother from Richs at North Dekalb, I do remember that, I think Johnny knew him too.we were all lucky to have grown up with so many bands that were freinds of ours, wish we could all go back, would love to here Glitter Queen live. tommy jacobs

Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/12 11:41 Tom, You and me both! A couple of years ago at club 29 or jakes whatever it was called then Hydra played a reunion show. I found out after the fact and would loved to have been there. They should have been a super group but the music business is very fickle and it really is who you know and who can help. Same thing happened to riggs. Oh well it still was fun and the sour taste of the business side has faded and only the good times remain.

Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/12 12:51 Yeah, the same with Ron Kimble, He should of gone alot farther, And when he came out with MARTA BUS, I thought well this will get him air play, but instead it pissed off some people, and today he is still doing the bar thing, I saw him at Glendas in Walton Co, And after a set I got to sit down with him and talk over the old Hemmingway days, I remember when they played Peidmont park sitting on a bus talking to Spencer about the old Hydra days, It took me some time to get use to him skinny as when Johnny snuck me in Hotlanta 35 years ago Spencer was HUGE, Cherry red SG, Rebel Flag hanging in front of a Marshall stack,Its very vivid in my mind, well iam rambling, any way if there are any more of those reunions PLEASE contact me TJ tommy jacobs

Wow -- never thought I'd be giving somebody advice on how to use the Internet...

Use your Google pulldown (does everyone have one of those?) and set it for "Maps". Then type in your old address. When the map comes up, you can choose from several different types. "Satellite" shows the streets superimposed over an aerial shot. Using the zoom and the little arrows, you can take a tour of Pea Ridge!

If you don't have a Google pulldown, here's the address:
http://maps.google.com

It's fun!

Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/17 17:57 Thank you Gail!!!! I checked out the site and it is really neat. I was able to see the old neighborhood and meandered about the area. Will have to keep this one handy in my favorites, so I can reference old street names that I have forgotten.

Re:Old Shamrock Neighborhoods - 2008/01/17 19:31 You should also check out Google Earth. It is way cool and although the images are not real time (yet) it is amazing. Microsoft has one too.
