Charles Harris 10K - 2008/02/12 14:10
Who else is doing the Charles Harris Run for Leukemia (10K) this year? The starting gun will fire at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, in front of Tucker H.S., and we'll hopefully finish (fill in the blank) minutes (hours ?) later at Shamrock after running, jogging, walking, or crawling down Lawrenceville Highway, N.Druid Hills Road, Mistletoe, and finally Mt. Olive. Always a lot of fun!
Come on and join me. You can register online at http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1518509&assetId=717d7ed7-b02c-4a6d-9f05-beaf03158873. Your $22 registration fee and other proceeds benefit leukemia research.
See also http://www.charlesharrisrun.com/raceregistration.html, which reminds me that the tee shirt always looks great!

Rick(y) -- How about if ya'll just stagger into Athens Pizza around 5:00 that afternoon and you can tell us all about it?

Re:Charles Harris 10K - 2008/02/14 08:01
Hey, Gail. Hopefully I'll not be staggering, but one round trip between home and Decatur is likely all I can handle on Saturday. Thanks for the invite, though! ____________________
Anyone else planning to run this one? It's Saturday, February 23, with a 7:45 a.m. start. Surely we have other runners among those of us still in the Atlanta area.
There's plenty of parking at North DeKalb Mall, where shuttle buses (school buses, nonetheless) leave about every 15 minutes for the ride to the starting line at Tucker High School.
The event ends 10 km (6.2 miles) from there at Shamrock (tee shirts, refreshments, and awards presentation in the gym, underneath the Dragon), from where it's an easy walk back to your car.
And there's always a strong possibility that you'll run into someone there whom you've not seen in years. Whether you're a runner, a walker, or somewhere in between, come on & join the fun!

Re:Charles Harris 10K - 2008/02/14 08:12
It is pretty challenging for a short race;have run(translation:limp and whine)it a couple of times.....bonus is seeing a least a couple of Shs teachers working as raceday volunteers.....and it is always semisurreal to wander down the old halls and muse on the years gone by.....wimping out this year but Michael Haithcock (one of those diehard types who has run the Peachtree for about two decades)will be running.....Lorraine

There's still time to register and loosen up for Saturday morning! If for no other reason than to tour the gym --and maybe the halls-- afterward.
Like Lorraine said, there's no telling who you might see there!

Me??? Run????
That's a good one, Ricky! Actually there were a few years that I ran the Charles Harris 10K as well as the Peachtree Road Race. Those days, my friend, are WAAAAY behind me! And I will use my "I live too far away" card this time! Does THAT get me out of it???
On a serious note: The Charles Harris 10k honors a truly wonderful man and benefits leukemia research. I hope there is a HUGE turn out! Have fun and be safe to all of those that run and otherwise participate!

It's never too late to have a happy childhood, but the second one is up to you and no one else.

Congrats to Chuck Harris, Class of '72, and his team for another superbly organized and well run event this morning.
This is the one thing that takes me back into the old SHS neighborhood just about every year. Finishing on Mount Olive and culminating with tee-shirts, awards ceremony, and friends in the gym, this is an annual event that benefits leukemia research.
Who else ran the Charles Harris 10K this morning?

Rolling out the red carpet here for Scott Harris, who joined our website over the weekend. Welcome, Scott!
Now, what's it gonna' take to get Chuck on here? I spoke with him briefly Saturday after the run, but didn't get an answer to that question.
Were any SHS alums --other than Scott, Chuck, and I-- there for the run Saturday morning? Surely there were others among the nearly 1000 who finished and wound up in our gym, underneath the Dragon, to pick up what is consistently the best looking tee-shirt of all the races I've ever entered, including the PRR.
If you missed this one, consider being there next year, probably the last Saturday of February '09. It's a great event, and it doesn't matter how fast or slow you run or walk!

Alright, good to hear! I wish I had known to look for you; it would have been great to see all of you and to have said hello.
Anyone else???

Clyde Partin might have graduated in 1973, but he was class of 1974...he was Hank's next-door neighbor, too...
I've seen the class dilemma before. Where do we stand on official "Class of"? When you came in, or when you went out? Lots of us ended up graduating early. I was just a quarter early, so no question there.
I say if you came in with the Class of '74, you can never reaaaalllly get away!
