Jennifer Jung - 2007/07/29 01:40 I don't think that any teacher made more of an impression on me in high school than Jennifer Jung, the choral teacher. As I recall, I only had one class with her but, because the chorus room was next to the band room (where I practically lived), I saw her a lot.

Some of you band folks may recall that we drummers gave George Henderson, a really rough time (you trumpet players weren't much better). Oftentimes, he would try to count off a song but, even after counting to four (and sometimes eight) the band was never ready to play. We had so little respect for him.

One day, Ms. Jung conducted our class while Mr. Henderson was gone. She stepped to the podium, flashed her baton and expected us all to play, but not a sound was heard.... we weren't ready... we were either not paying attention or waiting for our eight count.

She chewed us out big time and I recall that we got our act together rather quickly. On that day, I gained the utmost respect for Ms. Jung. I signed up for one of her classes at the first opportunity.

Re:Jennifer Jung - 2007/07/31 14:44 When I think of high school, Ms Jung is the first teacher to come to mind. Jennifer Jung now Davidson was the best. She taught us all that if it’s worth doing is worth doing well – really well. Remember the spring musical that she broke out in hives and had to spend opening night in the hospital? (Well, maybe she was at home, but hospital was the way I remember it.)

She was the like the head coach for the music kids. Jennifer's groupies looked to her for music theory, music performance, musicals, and a bit of life coaching too. I remember having to spend some time with her when I got in trouble in other classes. I think we'd call her a mentor now.

This is music nerd stuff here, but singing the Vivaldi Gloria on tour with the Shamrock choir was pretty close to High school music perfection. I ended up in the UGA music school mainly due to her influence.

For you music guys out there, she is Jennifer Davidson who has been an author and clinician for MENC. I think she lives in Wisconsin (OK, somewhere up north). I could talk about Ms Jung all day long – but I won’t.

Robyn or Terry, if you're out there, I'm sure you know how to get in touch with her.

Re:Jennifer Jung - 2007/08/06 23:20 Tim ... go ahead ... I could listen to Jennifer Jung stories all day ...

And Bob ... that was a class post about her ... and, having only been in band 1 yr then bailing for choir, I couldn't agree with you more about Mr. Henderson! ...

Romo

PS Of course ... I now TEACH high school choir .. so I'm kinda biased ...

PPS Tim .. you were Pharaoh in 'Joseph', weren't you? ... Susan Ray and I were just musing about that tonight ... I remembered your performance, but couldn't remember your name ... (I remembered that you WEREN'T Phil Rice ... if that is any consolation ... )

Re:Jennifer Jung - 2007/08/07 02:36 Tim wore the big E on his chest - some say it was Elvis but we all knew it was Egypt

I loved Jennifer Jung - she kicked me out of the choir when I got caught drinking on the trip to Florida and then let me back in after a few months. I have loved singing and owe her and all of my choir buddies many many thanks over the years from what I learned from each of you.

One memory I have of Ms Jung - when we were not getting the notes she started throwing pencils at all the guys so we could make notes in the music. I laughed and was scared all at the same time.

Anyone else remember that time?

Do you remember the blue jean shirts we all wored one year and had them embrodered with our own designs?

I would love to talk to her one day and tell her how much I appreciated her for all that she did for me.

Re:Jennifer Jung Located - 2007/08/13 17:28 I remember the denim shirts. I know my mom spent a lot of time working on it. I also remember the great Disney designs on the room wall. I am sad to say that I was only able to have her for one year, I think? She left the next year.
