Re:Karl Staven - 2008/05/15 22:14 Gail, you mentioned the whopping 50 cents per hour you got baby-sitting. Well, that's the same price I was paid for b-sitting also. I baby-sat from the 9th grade until 11th grade (never any more that the 50cents/hr). Then, the senior fun began! I did put $1000 down on my first car with the money I made keeping kids. Those quarters added up eventually!
And, The Midnight Cowboy..... I also saw that movie when it first came out with my boyfriend Gary Cornelius (70). I felt like I was being bad and didnt know how I would feel seeing it!

Re:Karl Staven - 2008/05/15 22:46 Karl Staven was interesting then and interesting now.......he is an avant garde filmaker and is listed as a dept head at the Univ of the Arts in Philly....although some found him aloof, I was intrigued by his intellect and his musical ability and I hope he is happy in the niche he seems to have carved out for himself ......still searching for my niche.......Lorraine

Re:Karl Staven - 2008/05/15 23:09 Damn Karl,
You da man!
Actually my memories of Karl were ...that he was in terrific shape and a great runner. He was a great soccer player.... but Damnit.... when coach Francour made us run wind sprints, and then measure our pulse immediately afterward....Karl always had the lowest pulse......He was in the "best shape" of us all.
I recently asked Mike McGoff why didn't we just call off a lower pulse?...We just all wanted to get better for coach Francour and improve our skills!
Karl's dad always practiced hitting golf balls on Shamrock's field. That's the last of any of my memories of the Staven's.
I'm sure they were all successfull in their pursiuts.

Re:Karl Staven - 2008/05/16 03:53 I forgot about Karl's success as an athlete, a renaissance man - then and now.....as to his pulse - once upon a time ,before I became a stressed out divorced mom of four who ingests way too much caffeine, I had a resting pulse of 41 and an average blood pressure of about 90/45 (once I recorded 72/40 and the doctor queried " are you alive?"....).....L

Re:Karl Staven - 2008/05/16 07:57 Wow--This discussion has gone all the way around the block and back again!
What happened? There's work, Music and the Stavens all in one place.
I remember Kurt better than Karl and hope he will show up here eventually. They were all wicked smaht.

Pasty's brother Ray Conner worked there also, and her Dad who when by the name of Conner was a manager. I was the salad girl and yes I avoid salad bars...yuck! Fay Durham Howard 1973

I was a McDonald's (Tucker) employee for one summer.

Wasn't that when the fire extingusher over the fry station got set off, and the store was closed for the rest of the day?

RE: Burger King - 2009/04/28 14:36 YES!!! TWICE!!!! The first time was when another employee/SHS student (who shall remain nameless) intentionally broke the glass on the fire extinguisher on the fry machine because she wanted to see what would happen. I wasn't there that day!

The second time was about three days later when I ACCIDENTALLY (I swear!) hit the still broken handle with my hip bone as I was getting fries from the machine! WHAT A GREEN POWDERY MESS!

I will never forget the sound of the on duty manager screaming bloody murder at me! He yelled at me and made me stay until the mess was cleaned up (which was waaaay into the night!)

Thanks, Edweird, for reminding me of that very traumatic event in my life! Looking up my therapist's number now....

RE: Burger King - 2009/04/28 14:47 I thought that was a memory that somehow hadn't been eroded by the effects of time, or constructed from various fragments of other things.

I worked at the Red Lobster on LaVista for a while, and then later at the Alert gas station across from Hemingways, and finally N. Dekalb Mall as part of the maintenance crew before graduation.
