Shamrock's 1st graduation 1970 - 2008/03/17 22:33 Sometime weeks before graduation all 120 of us had our class picture taken in the gym. The gym was built but for some reason we had our graduation in the cafetorium. Thinking back the floors of gym may not have been completely finished. The graduation address was given by former news director of WSB TV, Hal Suit. I believe he went into politics with a slogan "follow suit". Ushers were members of the class of '71. The class graduation song was "Impossible Dream". We walked up the steps on the right side of stage and Mr. Outz and Mr. Chuck Harris presented our diplomas to us. Then we walked down the steps on left side of stage.
38 years ago this summer.
And that's the way it was Saturday, June 6th 1970.

Re:Shamrock's 1st graduation 1970 - 2008/03/18 09:49 Great post Laurie! This is the stuff that memories are made of. "Follow Suit" I think I remember that.
And what a great graduation song...To drem the impossible dream.
Wow to be the first graduating class....What did some of your fellow graduates go on to do? I wonder how many went to Vietnam? How many tuned in and dropped out?
I am sending a good karma your way and now, GO HOME TO YOUR MOTHER!

Re:Shamrock's 1st graduation 1970 - 2008/03/18 22:12 Laurie,

I have to ask if you might remember my sister, Debbie Blanchard? She is ten years older than me. But, she was one in the first graduating class at SHS.

Re:Shamrock's 1st graduation 1970 - 2008/03/18 23:17 Yes, I remember Debbie. What ever became of her? I know I knew her in 69 and 70 but before that cant remember. Was she at shamrock in 68? I tried to find her for our 15 yr reunion but couldnt. I've seen the name Blanchard on this site. Did you have a brother too? I wrote someone with last name Blanchard and asked if they had a sister but never got an answer. Maybe it was Julie Blanchard I wrote. Please write me back so I'll know. I'm going to look for my list of dragons I have for the reunion I worked on. It's packed away somewhere. I'm going to start trying to find people again for the next reunion.
My computer might be down this weekend but I'll answer you when its back up if I dont hear from you before then. Our class was so small. Everyone knew everyone. In fact, at that time, the whole student population was small compared to many other schools. I liked it that way.

Re:Shamrock's 1st graduation 1970 - 2008/03/19 00:15 Laurie,

Awesome news!!!!!! I think you asked me if Clay Blanchard had a sis. I didn't know her but, he did. Her name was Denise. People were always thinking that I was Clay's sister. I knew Clay, and hung out with him sometimes. But, it has been an on going question for me that still comes up, obviously. I consider it a compliment!

Debbie graduated from SHS, and then went on to Dekalb Community College for her core classes for two years. She transferred from there to Georgia State for the next two years. After that, she went to UGA for four years!!!!!! If she had her choice she would have been a full time student and world traveler. She ran the gamet as long as she could.

She lives in Lynchburg, Virginia currently with her husband. She is doing very well.

I would be glad to give you her contact information if you will email me. I know that she would like to hear from you and anyone else out there that went to school with her. I feel like she would attend a reunion if she knows about it! Probably fly in just to meet old friends!!!!!!

Thanks!
