I feel this is a good accomplishment!!!That I'm very proud of!
 Quit smoking three years ago!!!!!!Yea!
Cold turkey!!!Just me and God!!!I give him all the praise!!!!

I quit just under a year ago and came off the Meds after about 90 days. PLEASEEEEE tell me that at some point you quit wanting one. Most days are Ok just seems like Saturdays i always have a fight on my hands. I absolutly Agree that it is an AWESOME Accomplishment. Gives me hope that i can go day by day.

I applaud you with karma Tolly! Elaine, you and Tolly buy some Trident. It'll take care of that oral fixation and make your teeth whiter too. Of course, I only chew with my back teeth so I guess I have sparking white molars.

Thank you for the Karma and well wishes. Peppermints work better than Trident. Well they did till my teeth fell out. Who knew 4 pounds of Peppermints a week would do that??? Thanks again

Good luck on the smoking just remember this there are but two types of people those that have never smoked and those that choose NOT to smoke. Nobody loves to smoke a cig more than me and after years I still crave them but I choose NOT to smoke. You never quit once you start you just choose not to. Marshall

Congratulations to all you quitters!
For purely selfish reasons, I'd like (and need) to hear a LOT more quitting success stories to bolster my deep desire to stop this insanity myself.
I quit cold turkey for six months and distinctly remember that the intense cravings subsided within a week or so. Alas, in a moment of deep distress, I thought I could have just the one ... HAH! I now smoke more than I did before I quit.
And, Marshall, you are so right -- I do have the choice to quit, I just hope I can find the intestinal fortitude to make that choice a permanent one!
Thanks for creating this post Elaine - and congratulations on a GREAT achievement!

Just hang in there Gene it does get better I promise. And almost a year is great!
As Marshall said its a choice....(Great words by the way)
I always had alot of baby carrots and celery in the fridge, and alot of water. Didn't want to gain weight!!!
And like I said alot of prayer....ALOT!!!!!
I will say alittle prayer each day for you as well.
Keep up the good work, its worth it, I promise!!!!

Elaine- GREAT JOB! 3 yrs and smoke free-
Mona- it's not easy quitting , I know " been there done that" but, iut can be done and I'm sure there's plenty of dragons here that will support you when you make the decision to quit.
Gene- it does get better with time keep at it !! Its a journey and the things you will expereince as your body heals itself..
Marshall- How true!
20 yrs ago almost to the day I smoked 3 1/2 packs a day, thats 70 cigarettes a day. and I did this for almost 15 yrs... Then I made the decision no more.... no drugs, no patches, nothing but me saying no more and a whole lot of water.. What I learned through my experience was to completley flush your system out and it worked, then there were other personal challenges that I faced and had to work through, and like Elaine said I give all the glory to God, as he helped me immensely...

I have been smoking sense I was 14 years old, except during
my first pregnacy. I have tried to quit on my own twice and
both times, it lasted 2 or 3 months. I have heard that there is
now a shot that you can get at the doctors offfice and I am
trying to prepare myself for that, this coming Augest. My
health insurance will pay for the shot and I say, why not
try. Smoking is a stinky disgusting habit, not to mention
the health issues. I do not smoke around others, unless I
am outside. I do not smoke in my house. I do not smoke in any
enclosed places. I think that it is rude and very inconsiderate
to do so when other people may suffer from it.

August, huh? I tell ya what Robin, you give me a solid date in August and I'll quit with ya! We can go crazy together! 
What do you say? Deal? 
BTW - I don't smoke any enclosed place either - including my house - and it's mighty cold out there on January mornings, isn't it?

I would like to know how it goes with the two of you. I have heard about the shot. Joe's mom used "Hypnosis". That worked for her.
I have quit several times over the years. I quit both times when I found out that I was pregnant. "Cold Turkey"! Those were the easiest times for me. When I quit with Chadwick, I didn't start back until he was 10 months old. One year and seven months.
Mona, I remember that I went and bought that first pack during a moment of distress as well. 
Robin, I am with you on the "No Smoking in the house"! Because of that, I have really cut way back. It helps, especially during the cold months. I also try to be considerate of those who don't smoke.
I think it is a great thing for anyone who can quit and never start back! Good luck!
