Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/01/27 07:00 Aw, shucks, Mike. You're making me blush! I have always been fiercely loyal to my forever friends. I HAVE to be...they know too much about me! And now I am making new friends on here that I will be just as loyal to.

And Clyde: Admonisher? ADMONISHER?!?!?! I'll admonish YOU, Clyde! Don't make me come after you with Laurie's salt and pepper shakers! Hahaha!

Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/01/27 07:11 I have to say that I have also enjoyed being on this site. I have been reading some of the old forums, and hate that I missed out on some of them. Wasn't sure if I should bring up old ones. I have reconnected with some really good friends, and am making new ones in the process. I feel like I have picked back up where I left off. So again thanks Steve.

Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/01/27 17:50 I guess I also missed this thread when it came around last summer. It's interesting that Laurie has been delving in the archives -- I've been doing the same this week, and really enjoyed reading some of the old stuff, especially the ones that included Marshall's posts. This was apparently running during his final weeks...

I never thought of myself as the "Reunion type" and had a negative view looking back on high school, to put it somewhat mildly.

Marshall kicked off the reunion ball for me...and it's still rolling right along...

This website has been a very positive thing in my life, and I hope everyone else has found it to be such a wonderful way to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. The collective memory is very powerful!

And Debbie, unless the awesome Susie says so, there are no real rules in here...! Haul those old threads out and run them again -- check out Omni Concerts if you have a few weeks -- it could always use another 5000 hits!!

Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/01/27 19:45 OK - if it's OK - I went back and read through the Omni Concerts. I will start one as Municipal Auditorium. We will see how that goes. I hate that I missed out on the Omni ones.

Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/01/27 20:07 The only rules are: Don't use offensive language, and don't start volatile topics! (Politics, religion, or anything that has opposing opinions which people feel very strongly about.) Only Bob can do that with his Open Topics, and then I simply stay away so I don't get mad!!!

Other than that, I am cool! (And no smart remarks about me being the Spelling & Grammar Nazi! I am getting therapy to help me with my issues!)

Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/03/29 16:16 I was surfing the Discussion Forums and found this one.
Bob, I've been wondering when you first got the idea for this site. I know the reasons but would like to know more! I'm sure you discussed it with others beforehand. Would you fill us in a little on the history? Thanks!

Mary Andrews Elliott (Class of `77) has been a web site client for years. During a phone conversation around the end of 2006, one of us brought up the topic of the last multi-class reunion, which had been held almost five years earlier (I didn't go). She will remember the details better than I, but she probably whined and complained until I agreed to help her contact everybody for the 2007 event.

We sent out an initial email to the list that she had from the 2002 reunion. I set up the first site, a simple little thing, just to collect responses and provide a way to publish info about the reunion.

About half of the email addresses were bad, but the people who were contacted began to forward the site address around. Because registrations at the first site took off so fast, we realized that we could not only provide info about the 2007 reunion but there also might be value in establishing a permanent online home for SHS alumni.

This version of the site launched and announced on July 23, 2007. The first person to register was Steve Burns, Class of 71. Today, we have 1,280 members... three new folks joined just today... 51 during the month of March! As you can see, the site continues to grow at a fairly rapid pace.

Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/03/30 11:05 Gee, Laurie, are you sure you didn't pull this out just to make me feel bad about snarking at Bob on Friday?

ShamrockReunions.com IS a very good thing...maybe I shouldn't come in here when I'm feeling snarky, and get set off by words like "MRI" "relatively easy procedure" and "healthcare".

Ya'll keep those good ole memories rolling in...sometimes the past is just more pleasant than the present.

Re:ShamrockReunions.com is a VERY Good Thing - 2009/03/30 13:36 Absolutely not Gail! I was looking for another post and found that one. I'd been wondering that for a while. I'm glad you've been back here more lately!
