Peachtree Road Race - 2008/07/02 23:11 I know we have some runners among us. Who else is running the Peachtree Road Race on Friday?

Yep, for most of us it's a social event more than a race, but it can be as much of either as you want it to be. (I'm not sure that sentence makes sense, but I know what I mean.) All in all, a lot of fun.

I'll be running with my daughters and son-in-law. Who else will I see? Shall we wear green and white?

Re:Peachtree Road Race - 2008/07/03 06:34 Swooooooooooooooooosh! Last time I ran "The Peachtree" was in 1981. I think only 10,000 people were allowed to run back then. I think I came in 10,000th! The boy I dated all through HS came in 6th in 1978! I still have the newspaper article that listed the top 100 people in one of my very old scrap books.

Now I am waaaaaaay too old and fat to take on that challenge! I will just wish you and your family luck, and hope that y'all have a blast!

It has been a tradition in our family for awhile! At 50, I might feel like I am

Re:Peachtree Road Race - 2008/07/03 09:31 My healthy Cancer Survivor Shamrock Alumni husband, Phil Eve and some other fam will be running. He and I are 1970 (first grad class) are coming to Decatur gathering this PM at Ruby Tuesdays, but can't stay late because to get up at 3AM. He will be at the Race in a voluteer yellow shirt as Race Crew, then after starting the wheel chair racers off he'll Run the race. I'll tell him to look for Dragons. I think that's his gig. I'll be home warming up the grill so we can celebrate the FOURTH!!! Run Strong DRagons!! I swear someday Jack...I'm gonna put a picture of me here...

Re:Peachtree Road Race - 2008/07/03 15:19 Enjoyed reading the memories of Peachtree Road Races past as well as who will be running this year.
I have run a slew of them over the years but am taking this year off. My younger brothers John and Dan (both Lakeside High graduates, don't blame me have also run bunches of them. I agree that the race is mostly about having fun and being a social, good-time event, but nonetheless they are draining! Why all that pain for a t-shirt??

Ellen, please give Phil my regards and best of luck in tomorrow's race.

Re:Peachtree Road Race - 2008/07/03 23:12 I seem to recall placing about 43,536th in the "Combination Innertube/Floating Keg Class" on the July 4th 1978 Running of the Chatahoochie Raft Race. We to had to camp out the night before and rise very early in order to begin properly hydrating ourselves for the 6 hour ordeal ahead. I never got a shirt to commemorate my participation/survival in the final four years of the greatest outdoor sporting event ever held!

Well I guess surviving is is enough.

Great Blurry Memories!
