Re:Sputnik - 2008/07/10 13:30 I remember Sputnik Laurie. Debbie Hammock would come over to my house and we would get on my blue princess phone and call Sputnik together. You're gonna laugh, but I still have a friend that I met on Sputnik - he's actually a nice guy. We had no clue what kind of nuts might be on the other end of the phone - now we have match.com.

Do you remember what number we called to get on Sputnik?
Was it the weather # or time? I wonder who came up with the idea and actually made it work? That's great that you have your Sputnik friend! He must be a good one. Do you still have your princess phone? Mom doesnt remember getting rid of mine. It may still be at her house. But I haven't seen it in years.

Re:Sputnik - 2008/07/11 21:21 I don't remember "Sputnik"? But I loved my rotary phone that hung over my bed. It was the rectangular shape, black, and sleak. It used to hang in our kitchen and mom had it installed over my bed for me. I could reach up over my head and answer while I was watching "Bonanza"..........(my favorite all time show)

"Those were the days"!

Re:Sputnik - 2008/07/11 22:29 ..and Liz..I remember you telling me and Nancy about Sputnik. I always knew that you were the absolute coolest, most connected person on Earth!!!!!!

I mentioned Sputnik on this site months ago when someone was asking if anyone remembered a telephone chat room.

You were the trendsetter in my young eyes. If only you knew the influence you held.

Elaine--were you wearing your "Party Ring" when you were on that party line?
I am picturing in my minds eye, little Jackie Gentry in her cheer suit shouting at the crowds..."Y'all CHEER"
then going into her chant...

"I called the operator! Long distance too, but she couldn't find your number 'cuz your listed in the ZOO! a-ringa-ding-ding! Dingdong ding-a-dong! A-ringa-ding-ding! Dingdong ding-a-dong!

Now--that girl could belt one out!

PARTY RING!!!! I have one of the original ones! The colors don't change like they should. It mainly stays a dark, bluish color. I told you I'm a packrat!
I'd really be grooving making a call at a party, on my party line and wearing my party ring!
I also have a newer party ring I got a couple of years ago. I never did have one of those rings they advertised on TV. I'm talking about the ones with the inter-changeable stones! LOL Who had/has one of those!

Super Bad Party Ring (second version)
