What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/12 15:04 So, my son's have both left for college and I am now on my own. I have never lived all alone and this is a great anxiety for me... Living alone, becoming the crazy cat lady (except I don't have any cats), choking on a fish bone and not being able to give myself the heineken manuvure, forgeting that I are not supposed to stick a fork in a toaster on a just mopped floor and electricuting myself. Nuclear war, martians (they eat the big ones first), houseplants taking over the world, paisley coming back into fashion and losing my sense of smell and not knowing when the milk goes bad.

So, make me feel better...tell me what you are afraid of. What's in your closet of anxieties? What's hiding under your bed?

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/12 15:27 ...and my scariest fear is now realized. I found this in the vault..I think that's STP on drums and is that Jazzy DJ Jeff shirley on keyboards? And there's Lishy, Swoozie and (I believe)Laurie Early coming out of the teepee!

Hey Julie! I'm glad I was in good company while in the teepee! Now if I only knew why we were in there!

I did enjoy living alone. Of course there were a few times I was afraid for no reason. Maybe after watching a scarey movie but for whatever reason here's what I did. I got some glass bottles or vases and put them in front of the door inside my apartment. If anyone tried to open the door at least I'd here them with all the glass breaking. Or if you hear a noise outside just yell out "John get the gun"! That should scare them off; if not, offer them some of your tuna noodle casserole!
I should've gotten a dog all those years I spent living alone. When I did it made a world of difference.
You'll probably come to like living alone. You can leave the place a mess or the bed unmade and no one else will see!
If you want, call me and I'll talk you through it! Just don't call after 9:00 pm!!!

Julie, Julie, Julie,...A Few thoughts......
The "Heineken Manuver" can be very dangerous, even when living alone with or without a cat....The countless green bottles of "Heineken" you will surely consume in order self medicate your present loneliness will become an extreme hazzard as you transform into a helpless "Horder".......Secondly....While I command basic knowledge and keyboard playing skills....my instrument of choice is the electric guitar...perhaps you have been so self obbsessed that you neglected to notice all of my avatar's......Lastly....I have my own demons to battle without having to be confined in a tepee with my fellow SHS Loonies!!!!

Hope this is helpfull.
If you ever need any more of my moral support don't hesitate to ask!

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/14 01:35 In my closet??? Hum....let me see...oh,which one? Well I guess it doesn't really matter but all three have WAY too many fat people cloths and shoes!!!!!!! And I have cleaned them all out twice in 6 months, emptying over 200 hangers!!!! All organized of course, by sleeve length and color for shirts, shorts, capris and long pants....all suits together, all skirts together, dresses...you get the picture! So I am anal about it! LOL

I KNOW, I KNOW....not what you meant but I could not resist!!!!! If anything else appears in my closets...I AM MOVING!!!!!

P S Julie...there is a HUGE difference in being ALONE and being LONELY...as long as you have your family and friends, you will overcome being alone in the house! The boys will be home for at least a visit before you know it!

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/14 08:36 Julie
Believe me, give it alittle time and you are going to LOVE it.....
You can now sit back and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. The hardest part is just letting them go and you have already done that, it will get better for you. I promise. I have already been where you are.
You will get past this......And love it!

P.S You got to get you a dog!

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/14 10:36 Well, I have to say that I love living alone. I hope this
does not mean that I need to remove my address from my profile.LOL
I can say that it will get better for you Julie. Just think,
no one to clean up after but yourself. Can do what ever you want to,
when you want to. You can even go naked if you want to. You will get
past this empty nest syndrome before you know it.
I am not afraid to live alone. It is also nice to have someone to share
your life with, but we can be happy alone. Just keep yourself busy, and
let time pass. You will get use to it. It is a journey to take. Some people
can and do enjoy it, even prefer it.
I think that you have to be believe that
this will make you a much stronger and independent person. Best of luck to you.

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/14 11:59 We, too, are getting ready to have an empty nest. Both of our kids are moving out into their own apartments. Just a couple of months ago, my husband was traveling for his job, both kids were gone (for school and workstuff) and it was the first time I had spent the night alone since I was a teenager. Isn't that crazy? But there has always been someone at home with me. I, like Julie, am a little anxious about the new phase. Kinda wierd that you are with your children for so long; you raise them to be responsible adults and then when its time, its wierd (and hard) to let go. Julie, we have the same things in our closet!!!

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/14 13:12 Maybe this would fall more in the line of "What's in your trunk?" but I am traveling to St. Simon's this weekend (from Lilburn) to meet up with a long-time girlfriend now living in Americus, so needless to say we are traveling separately. I have never traveled alone before, so my fears are car trouble, flat tires, basically being helpless on the roadside at the mercy of pervs.
Encouragement, anyone? I plan to take a book on CD to distract myself...

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/14 13:43 Kim, We are all jealous!!! Your going to the beach!!!!

You will have a blast. Dont worry about the things that can happen just think of all the fun times and you will be there in no time.

The great thing about traveling alone ---- you dont have to fight over which CD or station to listen to, when to stop for a restroom break , what to eat for lunch , whos turn to drive, which way to go -- you wont get lost cause all women know we will stop and ask for directions if needed , how fast you can drive , how many suitcases you can take, you dont have to justify why you brought what you brought even though you know you wont use it all but wanted to have it just in case you MIGHT need or want it. Well, you get the picture.

Have a safe and great trip!!!! Tell your friend she is the envy to all the dragons to be at the beach with you.

See you soon.

Re:What's in YOUR closet? - 2008/07/14 14:46 Kim,

I travel almost weekly for work. I drive about 500 miles per trip. I have only had trouble 1 time in the past 3 years and that was a flat tire.

I called one of the Maintenance Supers for my property and before he could even get there to help me (I was driving my blazer and the tire is under the back end), one of the "hero" type highway guys was there and had the tire changed for me. He would not take any money either!

I love traveling alone...as my older sister (Sharon) said....no fighting with anyone on what station to listen to and I can sing to the top of my lungs and noone ever has to listen!!! Matter of fact, leaving out in the morning myself! If you hear anyone driving down the road singing....it is NOT me!

The trips seem to go quicker than you expect! Safe travels!
