Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 12:17 Picked this one up in the Pea Ridge thread...

Guys, this is so sad...does Peckerhead look back on his high school years with fond memories of good friends? Or was he as glad as I was to get out?

I sure never called anyone Peckerhead, but I think the Pea Ridge guy whose name no one remembers might have been Wendell McIntyre (class of '74)...am I right? He lived on the corner of Pangborn and Springbrook, after Wayne Dorsett moved. I think he had brothers, maybe one sister. He might have gone to Rehoboth for a few years, but he didn't start there, like me. Wendell was a good-natured kind of guy -- good thing, huh?

What a nasty little bunch we were! And it might have been cruel, but hey, at least Peckerhead wasn't ignored. God help the ones that were simply ignored. If you're out there, honey, I apologize for all of us...hope life has been good.

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 14:47 I remember him as a red head, and I was told his family had given him the nickname.

Maybe they were bird watchers?

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 15:57 I can't add anything to the peckerhead thread, but I've followed the various Pea Ridge threads with interest, as it takes me back way further than Shamrock. Not familiar with (or don't remember) some of the names contributing to these discussions, but I was at Rehobeth all the way from grades 1-7, and so many of the Pea Ridge associations have taken me back - drug store, service station - and all the family names that have come up. For some reason, the Pea Ridge place name means nothing to me, but I remember the Phagans, seems they came to the area and Rehobeth later than I did. Mike was in my class, and we were buddies briefly until he started hanging out with cool kids. James Phagan was an early childhood idol, as he was the first more or less contemporary I ever knew who cussed a lot - I wanted to grow up to be as cool as he was. I think I was afraid of the Clacks - but remember one of them, either Steve or Doug being far and away as good an athelete as Rehobeth ever saw. And the Cofers - Ronnie was also in my class - he beat me up one day on the way home from Rehobeth. No longer sure what I did, but since I was an obnoxious little sh@t, I'm guessing I deserved it. He apologized the next day anyway, which was nice. And Gail Hullings - I'm interested in the requested update on your sister Jan (wondered if there was a relation) - I remember her well, since my last name is Jackson, we were seated close together back in the alphabetized seating days of Rehobeth. She has a clear place in what pictures I have of Rehobeth days. Any Rehobeth alum remember Mr. Clayton - the military disciplinarian who taught history in 6th and 7th grades? And of course we had Mike East as our Rehobeth gym teacher before he went to Shamrock. That sure was a long time ago.

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 16:42 Mr. Clayton.... I can remember him making us march beside our desks in the seventh grade... Mike Griggs, you were in that class... Can anybody remember when the Rehoboth Pharmacy had a soda fountain. John (Later killed in the parking lot) ran the place and there was a little ole lady who worked the front counter, Ms. Knight. She lived where the Montreal 2000 complex is today and had a large corn field behind her house. I remember because Glen Beaudrot,Scott West and I caught it on fire with firecrackers....

Do any of you Ex-Rehoboth folks remember the teacher, Ms. Kerney. (Mike, you should remember her, she took us to her pool one weekend in fifth grade). Well, we still keep in touch and she is still in Atlanta....

I can also remember meeting behind the Denmarks Barber Shop before school to smoke, Don Toole, the Phagans, Chuck Morgan, Barry Wood, etc...... I really thought I was cool hanging with those guys......

Anyhow, nice stroll down memory lane........

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 17:10 Yes, if memory serves, it was originally called Landers and Wilkes but Landers died..... there are a couple wilkes meat markets around town, including one near my house in Snellville.. I've often wondered if they were the same family...

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 20:17 O.K. enough about my family or should I say distant relatives. Peckerhead was raised coming to my house on Sunday mornings on Pangborn Road, so we could take him to Rehoboth Baptist Church for Sunday school. My daddy was a fox hunter and every Sunday morning Billy would disappear (escape). Of course, when we would see all the dogs loose in the backyard we would know where Billy had been. He had it rough growing up but was as sweet as he could be. Anyway, the former Mayor of PeaRidge (Hoghead Haralson)was at my mom's house last Saturday for dinner. He has cancer now. Has his bad days and good days. His daughter Patti lives with him off of Wilson Road.
I also had Mr. Clayton at Rehoboth. I was in a class with Terry Welborn and B.J. Wilson. They always gave him a hard time. It's good to have old memories!

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 20:40 Pea Ridge really had a Mayor , Honestly, I never meant to insult anyone or any place. Actually I was just trying to find out what ever became Paul Traylor, I guy I used to date, without being too obvious. I guess that cover is blown now. So if you know anything..?

And speaking of lost loves, I know I can't be the only one wondering. But this site seems suspiciously absent of what I would think would be a main topic.
I think I'll have to start a new post to get the ball rolling.

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/08/21 20:51 Paul Traylor was living in Conyers last I heard. I use to see him alot. B.J. Wilson and I use to ride to school with him in his silver Camaro. No offense taken regarding the Mayor of PeaRidge. He also owned the Gulf gas station next to Rehoboth Elementary School.

Any more details about Mr Traylor?.
That was a great car. Last I knew he was studying pre-law.

Re:Peckerhead of Pea Ridge - 2007/09/23 08:05 Wilkes.... I worked there for a coupleof years. Guess I was 13 or so when I started. Mr. Wilkes was a great guy, a preacher. I can't remember what the name of his church was, but it was on Cooledge, down near 78. I grew up a block or two from Wilkes, on Cooledge Rd. I guess thats why I never really "fit" at Shamrock... all my friends went to Tucker. I'm glad someone remembers Wilkes, it was a really unique place by todays standards.
