Idlewood Elementary - 2008/07/16 15:12 Is there anyone who went to Idlewood that has been there lately. The other day as we where on our way back to Texas I stoped there and was able to go inside and believe it or not it looked just as it did 30 years ago the lady working the front desk said that Mr Lavender had come by with his grandkids two days prior. I wish I could have been there. If anyone is amazed as I was please share

Re:Idlewood Elementary - 2008/07/16 23:37 Ann Parker, Vanita Boulware and I went by last November before the reunion and we thought it looked EXACTLY the same also. We made some pictures. It even has a Jack G. Lavender Drive (the circle we had to run around in P.E. for the 600 yard run that Becky Dryden ALWAYS won). lisa barrett daniels

Re:Idlewood Elementary - 2008/07/17 16:32 Lisa, I also remember that circle. Mr. Lavender was showing his grandkids the circle named for him. Did anyone get any of those presidential awards for running around that circle? I almost could take myself back to another time and place. Also field day with the red and white teams.

Re:Idlewood Elementary - 2008/08/20 18:31 I "graduated" from Idlewood in 1978. I loved Mr. Lavender. He used to play tennis with my dad so I saw him often after that during high school but not since then. I would have loved to have seen him!! Wow.

I remember field days but my strongest memory is "graduation" and singing the theme from Mahogany (Do you know where you're going to?) as our "class song." I still have the dress I wore for my graduation. I wore it for my Subbie homecoming AND my daughter (now 21) actually WANTED to wear it for her first high school homecoming (no subbies for them... 9th grade!) That meant so much to me... memories, huh??

Re:Idlewood Elementary - 2009/02/10 22:33 I lived down Drayton Woods. I remember Mr Lavender running in a road race with me when I was in college. He was a great guy. Glad to know he's still around

Re:Idlewood Elementary - 2009/02/10 23:38 Mark, Did you know Kurt Munsey? He lived in Drayton Woods and drove a yellow Gran Torino. I used to date him and knew his whole family including siblings Kim and Kent. Robbie Padgett also lived down there I believe and he is a member of this site. He's a doctor now! I didnt go to Idlewood but Kurt and Robbie probably did.

Re:Idlewood Elementary - 2009/02/11 09:22 Jack Lavender gave me my first "educational paddling" at Idlewood. Unfortunately, he would call your parents first!
At Shamrock, Mr Porter would ask "do you want licks or do I call your parents?" Needless to say, my dad almost never heard of any of the trouble I got in at Shamrock.

Yes, I remember Kurt. Took me a bit but yes I do. He was a good guy. Glad to hear that he's a doctor now.
Kurt was a year older than me. I hung out alot with Don Moore, Jeff Neeley, Richard Mahoney and crazy Julie Brashler and David Parker. Don Moore lives down here in Tampa near me.

Re:Idlewood Elementary - 2009/02/11 21:34 Hey Mark,

Are you talking about David Parker from the class of 1980 or the David Parker from the Class of 1981? I really wish we could find David Parker from the Class of 1980. I owe him a few punches! Hahahaha!
