My Drive to the Interview - 2008/07/02 22:01
Well, I was going to try and write Lisa and Susie this at the same time but since I'm to lazy to do it twice I'll just post it for all. I've been pursuing a carreer change for a while now... but anyway, I was driving out to Douglasville for a managment interview with Racetrack. I had an appointment to have my hair "done" today, so I called my girl yesterday and told her that I had to postpone it. While driving, I was shaving with my electric razor looking in the rearview mirror of course and noticed that my eyebrows were a bit bushy and...ahem..grey. Tara usually takes care of such things for me..... I'm sure I can just use my razor trimmer and give them a little touch up......Here goes.....I mean..there goes..half my left eyebrow! Crap!!...Now I gotta make the other one match somehow...Geeze! Whatever...Maybe if it's a guy doing the interview, he won't notice. I need coffee...Yes...coffee....Hmmm....I wonder if they would think it would be kinda funny if I walked in with QT coffee?...as I took a big swig.......Oh!@#$^&*()_ I spilled coffee all over my white undershirt! Thank goodness I had my white dress shirt on a hanger still in the back seat.
Well. I went in for the interview...wasn't nervous. but wish I had answered 2 questions a little differently, But the hours were not what I thought so it was just as well.... The interviewer was a female and as we were wrapping it up and I knew that I wasn't interested, I told her about the eyebrows...Yes, she noticed...and no it would not have been funny entering with the QT coffee.
At least I know I wont have to yell out an insincere "Hi, Welcome to Racetrack" everytime the door opens. Drives me crazy. They should just put a recording to go off everytime the door opens and it would mean just as much to me!

This is just tooooo funny not to reply to!!!! I am so glad you published this one for everyone to see cause this one would sure be hard to have kept to myself if I am the Lisa you are speaking of....although I would have...it would have been extremely hard!!!!
Now....what can I say...this is what happens when you drink and drive!!!
Although I know this is not a position you would accept now even if offered, I will have to stay away from all RaceTracs now. If I don't, I will always be looking at any guy hollaring "Welcome to RaceTrac" to see if he has his WHOLE eyebrow!!!!

P. S. Mabeline sells a mean eyebrow pencil that you may consider investing in for any close upcoming interviews!

Jeff,
LOL......How hilarious.....I do appreciate your desire to multi-task! Your story reminds me of my trips on I-85 in the mornings on my way to work, watching the female's race by me while putting on their mascara. Atleast I hope they were all female's!
Also, wanted to mention that here in Savannah all the crosswalks (bunches of them), have a place where you push a button to request to walk. While you are waiting to be excused to the other side of the street, a recorded voice says, "Wait" repeatedly until the you get the okay and then the voice counts backwards from 10. Funny!
Maybe you should come up with a product that can do exactly what you suggested. I'm sure there is a market for something like it! Good luck with your interviews.

I'm with Dana - we need a new picture, Jeff! Hmmmmm..... I'm thinking that eyebrow will be grown back by the time of the reunion. If not, we'll be checking on that eyebrow!
Great story, Jeff! Thanks for sharing!

That is just too funny. It reminds me of an interview that I once had about umpteen years ago at Dupont in Athens. I was on time for my interview, but before turning into the driveway, my car caught on fire. I jumped out, opened my trunk and slung my vacuum cleaner into the ditch ( I was cleaning houses until I found a real job) and ran to the middle of the road. There was a semi coming so I started jumping up and down and frantically waving my arms. He stopped. Didn't have a choice. It was either stop or run over me. He got out with a fire distinguisher and put the fire out. I ran the quarter of a mile up the drive to DuPont and was late for the interview. I did not get hired. I guess they thought I would never be on time.

Blondean, You were probably frazzled and all shook up and didn't think of getting a ride with the trucker to Dupont. You surely did try your best to get that job.

Wow! And I thought wearing a red pump and a blue pump to a job interview was bad....
(Yeah....I didn't get the job either, Blondean!)

Oh my gosh! That is so funny(my brother, Jeff!!!) Thank you for making me laugh so hard that I cried!
I used to think that you were more like our Dad, but now I see that moving closer to Mom has made you become JUST like her!!! Just like the time she was at church and she accidentally tucked the whole back of her dress inside her panty hose and showed her backside to the congregation or the time that she had toilet paper streaming down her backside down the church aisle...!!! XO D'Lynn (the normal one in the family sister..haha!)

Re:My Drive to the Interview - 2008/08/03 13:19
That is soooo funny Susie!I can just picture you with two different color shoes on....how cute! I could write a book on all of the things that I have done like that! This last interview that I had for the SWA airlines job, I could not find the place for anything and they said that if you were one minute late not to bother, because being on time is everything in that business. Well, it was in an area where there were tons of factory building with no addresses or names on most buildings. I had five minutes to find it and I was in a panic. I ran into a random building and went searching for a person. I said I need to use your cell phone right away! Please call and find out where this place is!!! I was acting like a crazy person! This man must have thought that I had lost my mind. He called for me and pointed me in the right direction and I ran out saying..."Thank you!" I made it to the interview without a second to spare. I was the last one there out of the 100's of people! Thank God for that man! I need to go and bring him flowers or bake him some cookies or something! Thank God I got hired, too! Yea! See....it runs in our family!!!
