Re:Smoking - 2008/07/15 09:33 That's still my plan, Elaine! I'm also planning to put the exact same amount I spend on cigarettes each week into savings. I'm thinking within six months after quitting I'll probably be able to pay cash for a new Ferrari!

Robin? Rena? Greg? Are y'all still in?

ever sense we started this, but I just know that I will
need some out side help to be a success at my goal. I am so glad

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/19 16:19 Are you guys still with me on this? I went to my doctor today and he has given me a prescription for some Chantix and a coupon for $10.00 off. I will get it filled the day after tomorrow and take it for one week. After the week is up, then I will lay my cigarettes down. I wanted the shot, but unfortunately the side affects can be life threatening. My doctor said that there is an online support group that you can sign up with when you take the Chantix. Mona, Greg, and Rena, are you still going to do this? Let me know. I know that today was my original quit date, but now I have to postpone till August 27Th while the drugs get into my system. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/19 16:52 Chantix seems to be the way to go.
My wife quit smoking after 20 something years in less than a month.

After my 30 something years I'm thinking of doing the same. I'll sit back and watch you first though!

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/19 20:43 Robin! We are most definitely still on the same page!

BUT I have to admit I totally blew it today! At work this morning (around 10 a.m.) I wrote the date on a piece of paper and it hit me immediately that this was THE DAY! The most awful words came spewing out of my mouth. (I won't write the actual words that I spoke out loud (at work, no less) -- mainly because our awesome Moderator (Suzie) would ~delete~ ~delete~ ~delete~ them!) In short, once I realized I'd gone AWOL on our quittin' day, I made an appointment with MY doc for this Thursday to get a prescription for zyban. Zyban sorta worked before, but ... (another long story) ...., I'm 97.654987% sure it will work this time.

I'm on track with you, Robin. Failure is not an option on this thing! I luv ya and I got your back .... so long as you've got mine?

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/20 19:17 I am just so happy that you are doing this with me Mona and I am ecstatic over having so much support. So this is my plan. I will start taking the Chantix tomorrow August 21, and I will put them down on the 28TH. Best of luck to us both and anyone else who wants to join in.

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/21 09:28 I wish you all the best of luck with putting the smokes down for good. For good meaning forever and for the good of your health. I am proud of all of you for trying. If we don't try then we have already failed. I think I remember Yoda saying that.

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/21 09:56 my doctor prescribed Wellbutrin aka Zyban and it killed all cravings with the first dose and i have significantly cut down , i think its still the action of smoking i am looking for.even with no cravings theres the habit of the motions we been going thru all these years.and as i was told by a good friend - if i want to taste the cigarette again i should go lick an ashtray !the hardest times are after eating and stress, good luck to all who kick the habit.

Re:Smoking - 2008/08/21 14:31 Well, I got my perscription filled today and took my first pill. Insurance covered it, so my co-pay was $12.00 and with the $10.00 coupon, it will cost me $2.00 a month for 3 months. The first cigarette I smoked after I took the pill tasted like crapola. Maybe I am really ready for this. Thank you Byron, Metertel, and Doug for supporting us in this.

I'm not quite with you yet, Robin - but it's not because I fell down on our little project. The late afternoon appointment I had with my doc Thursday was canceled due to another of his patient's emergency. I am rescheduled for Monday morning which means I will start the Zyban program Tuesday - much later than I was looking forward to, but I'll be right there with ya, Robin! I can't wait!!!!! Keep me up-to-date on how you're doing, OK?
